Title: Where did you get your sig/sig idea from?
Post by: Smilodon on January 19, 2012, 06:53:06 pm
My sig is a link to a quote by an idiot from Free Republic.

As noted, mine's a quote from Bullshit's Dolphin episode that I found highly amusing.

The forums-related stuff is self-explanatory. The French is one of my favourite quotes. It's difficult to maintain the original meaning without having it become awkward-sounding when translating it into English, but here's my attempt: "I'm forced to laugh at it all, for fear of having to cry". Seemed appropriate, given the main purpose of the site, as well as my general take on life.

Bonus: Another favourite French quote of mine is "Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose", or "The more things change, the more they stay the same".

I don’t think the English sounds awkward at all. Quite the opposite, actually.

That said, my sig is just lampshading my username.

My name is a tribute to the L Word and the best character ever-- Shane McCutcheon. The siggy is just a sexy pic of Kate in one of her signature poses from L Word advertisements.

The quotes are: one is from MaybeNever when we were talking about home invasion prevention
The second is a Scots-Gaelic phrase that says: He that keeps not his arms in time of peace will have none in time of war. (I think it's self-explanatory in my personal beliefs as to why I keep weapons in the house. You never know when you might need one to scare someone or defend yourself)

My signature has 4 parts. Part one is because I am derpy. Skywarp will push you down the stairs. And a children's show from 1985 featured an episode where the bad guys got drunk.

Part 2 is because I never noticed how questionable 80s cartoons were until I started rewatching them with my children. Bee, my five year old, was the first to point it out. When a five year old spots things before you do, you know they laid it on pretty thick.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce_VOlRTT_8
Questionable children's programming for the WTF.

Part 3 is two fold. I like Mark Twain. I also have always sort of wondered that. If no one is beyond forgiveness, if Christians really are all about love, then why does no one try to show compassion towards the one they claim needs it the most.

Part 4 was something someone posted on facebook that I happened to like.

Mine is from this music video:

I loved the dragon/demon in it, so I made a GIF of him.

And then there's whatever dragons or eggs I happen to be raising :V

Ironbite-guess.

For the first part...click it and find out! For the second, it somehow got stuck in my head after a StarKids marathon, and I adjusted the "shivved" part to something more befitting a blueblood wizard. Also because my family are all bloody Muggles.

I stole the image off of the memebase My Little Brony, and I did so because I love Pinkie Pie. The quote is from the cartoon, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; the episode entited The Ticket Master

Mine is based off the fact that on a forum i used to visit when i was 12 i used to run a thread called Song of The Week and i would periodically update it with songs i like so now i use it as my sig and constantly update it every week when i remember.

Actually, no. I just picked it up as an English loan-phrase. I felt it was more clever than something like “Andy Nonymous.” I’ve just seen that particular type of pun too many times.

I did have five years equivalent of high school Spanish. But I’d be lucky to hold any sort of conversation in anything other than English today. Never had any proper immersion to wire the brain up for real fluency.

A sigma, followed by an aleph. No deeper meaning there, it's just my username.

First part of mine is as it says, a link to Da Rulesâ„¢ (http://forums.fstdt.net/general-discussion/da-rules/msg2/#msg2).

Second part is a pic I drew and am using on and linked to my website about houserules for tabletop games.

Last bit is a gif I made of several cats from Chrono Trigger, all marching in a line (but not in step, 'cause cats are too independent for that). The inspiration for it came from way back when on the old-old-forums Yahweh had made, when it was thought that the look would be modified and suggestions for how it should look were asked for. I made a suggestion (http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3189/2838024873_ea7df8fa6f_z.jpg?zz=1) which included a cat from Chrono Trigger in the signature, and ever since then it's been a kinda thing for me to include one somehow.

I got Bridget from the Bridget image gallery of the Guilty Gear wiki (http://guilty-gear.wikia.com/wiki/Bridget/Image_Gallery) (and, no, he's not dancing, per se.  That's his fighting stance).

The link below Bridget, I made on one of my all-time favorite sites, www.tvtropes.org

When I discovered what Miles' situation was, I knew I didn't have the money to help out financially, so I decided the least I could do was put it in my sig, and hope that if a newcomer happens to see one of my posts, s/he'll follow up on it. Thinking of adding to my sig later, but not sure what yet.

An awesome quote from Lady Renae, and a Zero Wing reference that I first used in 2004 on a different forum.

The sig has changed.

Part 1 came from the TF Anon Kink Meme over on livejournal (which is so very NSFW to the point I'm not even linking in this thread to be on the safe side). Someone was trying to explain their position on Grimlock.
Quote
Grimlock is big enough in comparison that he can use Megatron as his personal action figure but
(click to show/hide)
(Spoiler done for sanity's sake.) Plus, let's face it, he's not the shiniest can of wax. Him Grimlock think him practice new battle move, him not know it bad.

I will forever love places on the internet that make me look normal in comparison.

Part 4 went *Poof!* in a puff of "it made my signature look too big".

The first is a quote which has a lot of personal meaning to me and one which (when I get the money) I would like to be my first tattoo.

The second's a line from "Boys, Boys, Boys" by Lady Gaga*. I had the song stuck in my head for a while and thought the line goes well with my screen name.

*Yes, I like Lady Gaga. I apologize.

Mine is a quote from the hilarious blog/quasi webcomic Hyperbole and A Half (http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/), specifically an entry about how her dogs reacted to moving (http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/11/dogs-dont-understand-basic-concepts.html).  It describes the reaction of her "stupid" dog when it realized something weird was going on.

My friends and I think it describes me pretty well too.

The first quote is one I've liked for years, while next one is one of my favorite quotes from Portal 2.  The other one I heard recently and it struck me as both amusing and somewhat true.

Then of course you have my Shane quote from the old forums and my little headbanger dude since I'm a metalhead.

I'm sad that no one has me quoted in their sig anymore. There were, like, four people who had me quoted on the old site. Oddly, two of the quotes had to do with Hitler.

It's the lyrics to "Alkaline", a song by deathgrind band Circle of Dead Children.

Which, incidentally, also happens to be my screenname.

Since I changed my sig image I guess I should say somethin'.

I'm a huge Scotty fanboy. Even though actual Scots seem to not like him for his accent and fulfilling stereotypes I just love that ruddy red-shirt engineer! I want to hug him and drink whisky with him while we work on his bairns.

So, I went ahead and found a signature image from Deviantart. Shane will probably return in my sig at some point but for now the Scotsman stays.

Mine is a quote from House of Leaves, a quote from Rocky Horror that I'm not even sure was in the movie (came from an mp3 of one of the songs from a production of the stage version) and the last thing is something witty I posted to facebook once when I couldn't sleep. At least, it seemed witty at the time.

Mine is just a little Zen idea that popped in my head one day.  It goes hand in hand with my avatar, that all phenomena are fundamentally empty of self-existence, and that reality as we know it is an illusion.
