As a french person, I have to say that this movement is viewed with a lot of contempt by quite a large proportion of the population. They've been mocked as being "the first morons in french history to march in order to keep people from having rights".

Unfortunately, they are LOUD idiots, so... yeah.

And this is indeed a new low if it's more than a single dumb-as-a-rock father (I'd love to give him a taste of his own medecine... quel enfoiré!).

As for the joke about surrendering cheese eating monkeys...  :evil grin: Yeah, keep joking, 'Murica. It's not like we even need to prove you wrong. Don't worry, we won't mention your "war of independance" in public.

Edit : But yeah, violent protests in France are dime a dozen. Tear gaz on the news is a common enough sight. It's just the very first protest in (litteraly) decades where the religious right is in the street!

It is completely out of character, so to say, to see any French people acting ignorant and being loud, thick headed fundies.

And, thank you to your forefathers for helping a very young and vulnerable US continue to exist. And thank you to your grand fathers - all 1.3 million of them - who fought from within ally armies to win WW II.

Good point, but burquas are not required by the Quran. They are a traditional way to treat women as property.

Now, banning the hijab (not the face veil type) is oppressive, as it would be equivalent to banning yarmulkes.

Some women choose to wear burqas. Hijab is a general modesty requirement that applies to men too. With women, there are varying degrees of hijab - the typical headscarves, burqas, niqabs, etc.

I always found all that Francophobic "Cheese-eating surrender monkey" crap irritating as hell. The French don't bother me one bit. They helped my country achieve independence, for crying out loud!
