Conservative group wants stealth tax on solar panels
« on: December 04, 2013, 03:20:45 pm »
In case anyone was still confused about what ALEC is for...

Quote
An alliance of corporations and conservative activists is mobilising to penalise homeowners who install their own solar panels – casting them as “freeriders” – in a sweeping new offensive against renewable energy, the Guardian has learned.

Over the coming year, the American Legislative Exchange Council (Alec) will promote legislation with goals ranging from penalising individual homeowners and weakening state clean energy regulations, to blocking the Environmental Protection Agency, which is Barack Obama’s main channel for climate action.
.........
“This is an issue we are going to be exploring,” Eick said. He said Alec wanted to lower the rate electricity companies pay homeowners for direct power generation – and maybe even charge homeowners for feeding power into the grid.
“As it stands now, those direct generation customers are essentially freeriders on the system. They are not paying for the infrastructure they are using. In effect, all the other non direct generation customers are being penalised,” he said.

I would like to say this is such obvious self serving BS that not even  tea baggers would fall for it.  I mean this seems rather hard to rationalize with  the ideal of the "free market".  This is taxing people for what they are doing on their property and that makes them more independent on the over all system.

But then I realized that a lot of the tea party thinks green energy is a socialist plot.

This is why a lot of DIY solar kits include on and off the grid switch options. Fuck em. The sun belongs to no man. They already pay lower rates for net power generation by home owners' reverse metering versus power plant generated juice.

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

Honestly, most Republicans SHOULD be pissed off about this -- including the rabid conspiracy theorists.

Because hey, the government's trying to regulate your independency.
Mockery of ideas you don't comprehend or understand is the surest mark of unintelligence.

its not about trying to regulate your independence, its all about making sure you pay the powers that be weather you use their services or not. It is all about the rich crying that people becoming independent and stop sucking them off is hurting their profit margins. What better way to fix that than a law forcing people to pay.

This is so blatant its sickening, and these are no doubt they same people who said that the Obama care thing was illegal.

Not surprised. We all know what happens when a corporation's profits are threatened in America. Time to break out the lobbyists.

Never underestimate the power of willful ignorance. It is stronger than all other defense mechanisms.
