Title: Xian movie shows xian paranoia
Post by: the_ignored on July 07, 2013, 03:57:25 am
You can see the review for this movie here (http://www.christianfilmguide.com/the-freedom-of-silence-review-2012/)

Totally ignoring reality this movie pretends that current trends mean that xians will become persecuted.

Quote
The Freedom of Silence is a prophetic film of sorts that warns what may result if certain current social and religious conditions continue to exist unhindered and unchallenged in America, and the world at large. It’s a sobering, and even scary scenario to be sure, and plays out like a faith-based Orwellian nightmare, in which simply believing in God can get someone arrested, thrown into prison, tortured for information, and killed.

Quote
This is a great film! It’s tense, thrilling, intriguing, and provocative stuff, fully intended to shake things up and get believers thinking about the future, and what it may look like for them and their children. And if this film’s anything to go by, it’s not looking good.

Oh great...they like this part of this crap:
Quote
If you chose to watch this film be prepared to come away challenged, encouraged, and inspired, as there are many powerful truths offered up, and “wow” moments to be had. For example, I absolutely loved the moment when Zach challenges Captain Johansen’s belief that there is no God by pointing out that, to prove there’s no God, he (Johansen) would have to be everywhere and know everything, that he would have to in fact be God. And there are many dynamic moments just like this!
Oh shit, I can imagine how an atheist skeptical movie would have handled that situation.

First heard of this on the Cognitive Dissonance (http://dissonancepod.com/?p=557) podcast.

Well, this movie sounds utterly idiotic. The FSTDT Mods should do a Rifftrax/MST3K type thing for it.

Sounds hilarious!

I would love to see a MSTing of this & other goofy indie bible-thumper flicks.

I think there should be a website dedicated SOLELY to Agony Booth-style recap/reviews of these dorky religious propaganda flicks, kiddie shows AND Jack Chick tracts...all in one web site. A hilarious super data base of all this silliness in a convenient one-stop-shop place.

There's a number of Chick tract review sites but I would love to see one utterly hilarious, goofy & bitingly satirical website dedicated to ripping on Chick Tracts, other tracts, indie ChristoFundie flicks, that dorky anti-Muslim movie, Fundie kiddie shows & video games, etc. It'll have elements of Agony Booth, Nostalgia Critic, Enter The Jabberwock & MST3K.

A site like that would be PURE WIN and a legend of cyberspace pop culture for years to come!

A multi-media FSTDT basically. Well, if users started making stuff, it might get integrated.

I've wanted to do MST3Ks of sorts for shitty propaganda movies and games for a long time. :P I don't have the equipment (or will) to do it though.

EDIT: Aaaand it's been added to my list of stuff to watch for the lulz later.

If your computer has a built-in mic, just download Audacity. Now you've got the equipment.

I actually bought that movie in a christian bookshop a week and a half ago. It was 'operation lesbians go and buy christian dvds' and it was successful. I haven't watched it yet but it likely will end up on my list (which is nearly 100 films long)

I also bough the christian answer to Paranormal Activity.

That's just as crappy as Paranormal Activity. Doesn't seem to be a demon doing it in the trailer, more like your standard ghost.Unrelated to the topic, one of the related videos has The Rake(Or what looks to be it.) in it.

Also, there's this film called C Me Dance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Me_Dance) that's about a girl named Sheri, who gains the power to instantly turn people into raving fundamentalist Christians who do their bidding by simply touching them. This is portrayed as a good thing in the movie, even though it's actually quite horrifying.

I don't know what's more awful, the fonts or their logo. The acting is, well, B-movie standard it seems. I'm sure the preaching and the "special" effects are bad, though.

I desperately want this to be a movie. Bible-thumping fundie annoys everyone, only to be granted the power to make people view the world with rationality, skepticism and compassion with a single touch. The world becomes a better place, and fundie learns a valuable lesson.

There are plenty of areas still were atheists are legally barred from having any public office.

Yes and no.  Those laws are still on the books, but they're completely unenforceable.  The only reason atheists can't hold office in those areas is that those tend to be very conservative areas where people won't vote for them.
