Sharif don't like it…

BAMAKO, Mali — Khaira Arby, one of Africa’s most celebrated musicians, has performed all over the world, but there is one place she cannot visit: her native city of Timbuktu, a place steeped in history and culture but now ruled by religious extremists.
One day, they broke into Arby’s house and destroyed her instruments. Her voice was a threat to Islam, they said, even though one of her most popular songs praised Allah.
“They told my neighbors that if they ever caught me, they would cut my tongue out,” said Arby, sadness etched on her broad face.

No more rockin’ the Casbah :'(. Examples in article and embedded below:

Using violence and suppression a wave of fundamental Islam has been sweeping northern Mali. This is an outright destruction of culture as music plays a prominent role in various aspects of life. Worse yet those extremists have destroyed or seek to further destroy ancient tombs, manuscripts to effectively erase the very history of Mali itself.

This is not to ignore the ongoing, nationwide conflict among the all too common human rights violations.

Fundamentalism is just a means of suppression. Whatever religion it takes, it'll twist to its whims. Sexism suppresses half of the population. Cultural crushing crushes the people's voice.

This is little more than that.
The material needs a defender more than the spiritual. If there is a higher power, it can defend itself from the material. Thus denotes 'higher power'.
