Odd that, we managed to get the giveaways and freebies that socialists use as the gateway drug before the repression starts, without actually going full "mass starvation and death camps" as was the fashion in Southeast Asia at the time...

But then we've only had two proper leftists in charge since 1951, so the plans for collectivisation have been put on hold for the duration.  Not that they didn't try it on during the Wilson and Callaghan years, mind.
You still have public infrastructure that people like you would merrily rip up that gets labelled "socialist" in the US of A.

The fact your island retains public broadcasting, public housing, a welfare safety net and public health insurance demonstrates that while most Britons may not be Maoists they still wouldn't embrace the American style "free market" anytime soon.

Maybe they "hate freedom", who was it that was barking that not so long ago?

Well, yeah. Exactly.

Point is, it's mainly due to timely interventions of the electorate removing pernicious socialists from power in the nick of time.

Discounting Blair and Brown we've only had two periods of Labour governance since Clement Attlee and it's been the same story both times...rampant trade unionism, winters spent without power and heating due to strikes etc; nationalised utilities, nationalised mines that were kept open at taxpayers expense long after they were unprofitable.

Thankfully we got rid of them when we had the chance, I hate to think what a state we'd be in otherwise.  Probably something venezuela-ey.

And now Corbyn supporters want a return to that shit.

You leftist sheep have no idea how much fun it'll be for me when you're all herded into the gulag and i'm the one holding the whip.

You wouldn't send *me* to a gulag, though.

Right, Contrarian?

This has gone far enough and you have forced me to react to this: Mr C doesn't really believe what he is saying. He is just trolling you. At first I did wonder if he really was serious but like in most of his comments he is merely being a contrarian, which should have been obvious, and trying to pick something that will make people angry.

So, in essence, he's being a giant dick and he should be banned?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Conformity is purity.  Don't think, BELIEVE.  Your masters have told you it's best if we all agree.

Now go, that failed harvest won't pick itself...

I thought he should've been shown the door the moment it was out that he was a troll.  Course, I don't tolerate trolls under any circumstances, so I might be a bit of a hardass, in that regard.

Oh, please. He's a much more interesting chew toy than a certain someone we all are tired of.

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

Never really got the chewtoy thing, if I'm being perfectly honest.  If you get a troll, you laugh at it, mock it, then get rid of it.  The only purpose they should serve is to fill out the ban list.

That's the difference between Mr Conty and the other chewtoy. That chap is completely earnest and believes what he does with every fibre of his being, even (maybe especially) the bits that contradict each other.

Not so with Contrarian, he's just drunkenly tossing poop and loving it. The username makes it bloody obvious, it's right there on the tin!

That's the reason I don't mind UP, sometimes I even like him. We may disagree with things but at least I know that he isn't just picking his responses purely based on what would make his target audience angry. (Well, I would like UP more if he didn't run away from arguments when he's losing instead of admitting defeat and actually debated honestly.)

If you find yourself getting murderously enraged by criticisms of socialism you should maybe reconsider the direction your life is taking.

Unless you actively aspire to storming a student protest with a tank column.

Could we compromise and storm the Vatican with a tank column, instead?  It'd be much more entertaining.

I think the Swiss Guards may be slightly tank proof.

They look like the medieval version of Tesla troopers.
