^Pretty much the default strategy even now. The market managers actually take time to drive around and estimate how long it'll take them to drive everyone else out of business, and adjust their plans accordingly. They're very rarely wrong.
Some of Walmart's indoctrination training modules are absolutely awful. Take the Alcohol Compliance (aka "How to Sell Booze") mod: The opening graphic basically implies that even if you follow the law exactly, that Walmart can and will hold you accountable (aka fire your ass) if the customer does something dodgy with their product in the privacy of their own home. So if someone of legal age to buy alcohol buys it from you, then later someone under-age gets drunk and hurts someone, Walmart will fire you and hand you over to the cops for prosecution - because somehow (according to the mod) you can be held accountable for the actions a complete stranger takes of their own will hours after your perfectly legal transaction with their friend.
Total bullshit. I mean, yes, Walmart will fire you for the above scenario - but not because you're somehow "criminally responsible" for the actions of the minor. It's because they'll fire you for even being tangentially involved in any and all criminal activity. They don't discriminate in this - it doesn't matter if you go and murder someone or if you're the primary witness to a murder. Walmart will fire your ass regardless because they don't want their business even remotely linked to a crime. There's a provision in their policy that promises re-hire once the issue settles (assuming you're found innocent), but they leave out the fact that they will not give you comparable hours or a wage even close to what you enjoyed previously...and that's assuming there's an "opening" even available (there won't be). So if you work for Walmart, don't ever intervene in a crime or you'll be out of a job.
Walmart fucking sucks.
