No, seriously. They're taking science out of the primary school religion, because it takes away from their religion and nationalism studies.

I have friends who live there.  I dunno my fear is that they will be permanently exploited for cheap labor etc as they will never be able to acquire a strong middle class without scientists.

No, I'm being serious. There's no real evidence that education is a very important prerequisite for development. Industrialisation is far more important.

Um Japan and Korea and Taiwan took off in tech fields due to education. ::)  See drilled math so hard into their citizens brains that they became good programmers.  also with less interest in science i guess indonesia will bring people to allah.  by that i mean fewer doctors so they will be visiting allah sooner.

Not saying that education isn't important, but whatever the value I bet it's a lot more important for economic development than religious studies.
