I don't know if that's happening outside the US, but where I'm from - a country that only recently got out of the habbit of planting bombs under police officers' private vehicles, and where that threat still exists - that is EXTREMELY dangerous and irresponsible information to be selling (not that I expect it's 100% safe in any other part of the world either).
That's why there was fury when Google's Street View contained photos of private vehicles entering and exiting police stations with their number plates fully visable and readable. Google was forced to blur the number plates in all such images (and now I think they actually blur all number plates everywhere as a matter of course).
PS If anyone's wondering why I picked up on that and ignored the whole rape victim thing it's because I haven't much to add; everyone else has pretty much summed up my feelings already.
