There's already some assholes who want to "put it on the ballot" (read: majority mob rule on civil rights).
Even though western WA is quite liberal, there's still the occasional homophobe. A few years ago, there was a project to turn some collective property of waterfront home owners into a public beach, or something like that. Part of it involved getting a portapotty on the land. This one guy opposed the portapotty on his property and wrote a rant in the local paper about it, because he said gay people would use it for sex.
