School Shooting in Ohio

[Updated 1:19 p.m. ET] A student at Chardon High School said that T.J. Lane, the suspect in Monday's shooting, "was a nice guy" who he never suspected would shoot anyone.

“He just came from a really broken down home and he was living with his grandparents," Evan Erasmus, a senior at the school told CNN.  "He was more of a quiet type of kid. He was really nice, though, if you did talk to him.”

Erasmus said that Lane and some of the victims "used to be friends" but more in middle school and early high school.

“He was one of the nicest kids there…," Erasmus said. "It was really shocking that it was him.”

Erasmus told CNN that he believed T.J. Lane was either a sophomore or junior at the school.

He said that Lane was sitting about a table away from some of the victims.

Erasmus said he heard the victims "were all sitting there and then he just stood up and that’s when it all started."

Meanwhile, he and the other students in a nearby classroom, "turned the lights off and we headed into a corner" after the shooting.

Chardon High School is about 15 miles from where I am sitting right now. I have students at that high school. Thankfully none of them were injured.

Que Jack Thompson blaming video games, and everyone ignoreing that it was probably the parents fault. Sorry if anyone's offended by my knee jerk response, but I hate people shifting the blame to where it doesn't belong. Pisses me the fuck off.

Christ, this is horrible. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. Such a tragedy.

I'm going to avoid reading the comments for now. I'm already in a foul mood -- the last thing I need is to see a bunch of morons ranting about video games and gun laws.

Guns should only be issued to licensed adults after they pass safety training. If a teacher or other staff member who was licensed to use a gun in self-defense was there, this might have ended a lot quicker.

That being said, inb4 zero tolerance policy and "But this is a gun-free zone!"

My condolences, to the friends and families, the students, and the faculty and staff at Chardon High School. No school should every have to suffer something like this.
