So I got this in Physicis today
« on: March 05, 2015, 05:13:56 pm »
So I was taking a Physics test today and I got this as an answer guide

spoilerd due to size

Just thought I'd share this with you guys thoughts? In my opinion I'm surprised a teacher did this I don't go to a Catholic or any type of religious school so it's kinda strange to see.

Earth's biosphere is not a closed system. The second law only applies to closed systems, which the study guide alluded to with the house example until it went off the rails into woo-land with "an intelligent plan".

"Every time we've tried to pin an observable event on God it ended up being a natural cause so we're making it a completely unfalsifiable claim. Take that, science!"

EDIT:

If it's a public school you should fill out the Church/State violation form on the Freedom From Religion Foundation's website. Try contacting the ACLU, too. This is a secular country and teachers/administrators that think they can use state power to get away with this need to be smacked down.

Consumption is not a politically combative act — refraining from consumption even less so.

Report it to a newspaper or something.

Do it.

You will not regret it. Humiliate the fundamentalists.

I would but that would require effort on my part or at least more effort than I'm willing to put into this. Also I live in Louisiana, no matter how liberal New Orleans is it's still full of die hard Christians and so I don't think it would go over well.

If you're unwilling to actively protect your civil liberties I don't see the point in complaining to us about it.

Who said I was complaining? I'm mostly amused.

The circled answer does talk about a closed system, the universe. The mistake here is a) not knowing what the fuck the theory of evolution is and b) not knowing that everyone agrees that the entropy of the universe has been increasing since the beginning

Also, for the second circled answer, I would have said something like "God has infinite negentropy" or something. More fun than special pleading.

Also: Not technically wrong, but really weird that the answer to 15 does not reference the Clausius or Kelvin statements of the second law.

At least take it to people willing to do something, instead of talking about it on a message board. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be brought to attention even in Louisiana, Land of Inbreeding and Corrupt Hicks...

...Oh wait, or was that Alabama? I always get those two mixed up.

At the very least, this is something that should be brought to the attention of the department head. This is a blatant violation of freedom of religion.

Not to mention a gigantic failure at teaching science.
