Jim Roddey tells a low-blow joke

Quote
"There was a disappointment tonight. I was very embarrassed," Roddey told the crowd, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I was in this parking lot and there was a man looking for a space to park, and I found a space for him. And I felt badly -- he looked like he was sort of in distress. And I said, 'Sir, here's a place.' And he said, 'That's a handicapped space.' I said, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, I saw that Obama sticker and I thought you were mentally retarded.'"

Post-Gazette reporter Tim McNulty observed that the crowd "hollered and clapped" in response to the insensitive joke.

...Uh-huh, yeah.

And yet they scream until they're blue in the face when someone points out something negative about their favorite candidates ;D

Well, to be fair, if he had said "Mitt Romney sticker" I probably would have laughed, but then that would actually make a LITTLE more sense.

Meh, we make similar jokes about neocons all the time. I have to say, I've got no problem whatsoever with this.

Exactly. It's tasteless, but no worse than I have said at times.

I think the cause of the offense wasn't the "Obama" bit, it was the "mentally retarded" part.

It's saying people cannot in good faith disagree with the him. He's always right.

When we call people idiots, it's not just because they disagree- but because they can't defend their disagreement logically.

I'm more offended that anyone thought this was newsworthy. This sudden string of overly sensitive people blowing up about the stupid things comedians say is really starting to get under my skin.

That was my first thought when I saw this. Yeah, it's stupid, but it hardly deserves any headline space.

It's not that he dissed Obama.  Hell, I'm fine with that, albeit annoyed to a small degree.

It's that he went after the people and basically called anyone who supports Obama mentally retarded.

He's no comedian, he's just a politician, so naturally, news stations pay something of a closer attention to him.

I mean, I don't see anyone here (except maybe one or two people) saying that all Republicans are mentally retarded.  Or etc. etc. etc.  What I see is harsh, if a bit comedic criticism directed at the politicians, with some insulting annoyance directed at the people who keep electing these politicians and keep falling for their lies :P

That being said, it's not nearly as bad as the "rape jokes" comedian.

Derp. That'll teach me not to click links. I thought he was a comedian, not a politician. My bad.

I suppose it's a bit more relevant if it's a politician saying it.

We shouldn't be too hard on him, he's a member of the GOP after all, he doesn't know any better.
