McCarthy-Era Anti-Communist Tirade
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:26:57 pm »
As scavenged for us by ep.tc. (Linked for size. It's enormous, I tell you!) http://ep.tc/img/eptc-christmas-communism.jpg

Here's some highlights:

Quote
The ideology of communism is applied Godless materialism.

Quote
When you ask the Communist a simple question: "How are you going to change human nature?" They would answer with one word, and that word is "science." "We are scientists. Science has changed the material world. Science has changed the world of agriculture. Science has changed the world of animal husbandry. We can use science to change human nature itself." However, to be scientific you must follow scientific laws, and communism proceeds to give it three scientific laws. These laws are as follows:

The first one is "There is no God." They are proudly, unashamedly atheistic in theory and in practice. When they deny God, they simultaneously deny every virtue and every value that originates with God. They deny moral law. They deny absolute standards of truth and righteousness. An entire civilized code of moral and ethical values is destroyed so that they are free to erect in their place new moral and ethical standards as the occasion demands.

The second law of communism is that man is a material machine. He is matter in motion and nothing more. Man is a body, and he is completely describable in terms of the laws of chemistry and physics. Man has no soul, no spirit, no significant individual value, no continuity of life. He is entirely an evolutionary product, the specie Homo sapiens, and subject to modification, adaptation, and transformation by the applied, established laws of animal husbandry.

[...]

The third law of communism is economic determinism. It states that the qualities of human intelligence, personality, emotional and religious life merely reflect the economic environment; that in the last analysis what we think, what we feel, what we believe, whom we love, and whom we worship is simply an expression of the environment in which we are raised, and since that environment is primarily concerned with economic forces, in the final analysis, man is a determined economic being.

Quote
The Communists are confronted with this problem: When they conquer the world, they are left with those people who have been brought up in the capitalist environment. They have had their experiences. It has formed their character and personality. Naturally, if you leave the babies and the children with them, they will impress that character and personality upon them, so the Communists are confronted with a problem of what to do with the adults of established character and personality once they have conquered the world.

Being thoroughly materialist scientists, they do not hesitate. They say they have no alternative. Naturally, they must dispose of these classes. To them it is not murder. Murder is a bourgeois term which means killing individuals for bad reasons. They are going to kill classes for good reasons.

It seems like every anti-communist canard and atheist-bashing pushed into one big document. What's also disturbing is that a lot of these attitudes are repeated by the right wing today.

I don't agree with communism at all and it's done a lot of evil in the world. I'm not denying that. The part that annoys me is where he tries to say that atheism, science, and materialism are bad by association.

Communism, in its purest form, is actually a fantastic idea: equality for all, working only on what you love to do, and not allowing money to dictate decisions on politics or personal lives. However, actual humans in the real world are greedy and selfish, hence all forms of communist countries so far.

No, people have used communism to do evil things. The communist manifesto doesn't state anywhere that people should be purged, eradicated, or otherwise disposed of.

People have done evil in the name of communism, capitalism, and all other economic policies.

Communism hasn't done anything because communism has never existed. No state has ever claimed to be communist, they've only ever claimed to be socialist. But I'll bite. What evil has been done by communism? Just sticking a red star on a flag does not make a communist party or state.

This is not entirely true. We see examples of selflessness and humility everyday. Before the advent of class societies, people lived in what is called 'primitive communism' in that all work was done for the material benefit of the group, there was no private ownership of the means of production, etc. People are encouraged to act in a selfish and greedy manner by the capitalist system, a system that encourages private enrichment as the expense of others.

Communism, much like other good economic and political ideas is simply a utopian ideology. Similarly capitalism was not what made us humans greedy, we were greedy long before we started walking upright. Greed is an inherent survival strategy.

TO be honest though, when I read that quote, I was surprised to see this in politics and government and not in religion or for that matter, the front page. It reads like some collection of right wing bogymen philosophies.
Personally though I agree with the second and third points or laws. Although what they have to do with communism is completely beyond me.

This is the most correct.

Even if a country did claim communism as its economic policy that wouldn't mean it follows the actual policy. Hell, if I had the time, I would take individual "commie countries (USSR, North Korea, The People's Republic of China, etc)" and point out where they violate the manifesto.

Hint: If it keeps a singular ruler, it can't be a communist country.

That said, I've stopped trying to anticipate what people around here want a while ago, I've found it makes things smoother.
For I was an hungred, and ye told me to pull myself up by my bootstraps: I was thirsty, and ye demanded payment for the privilege of thine urine: I was a stranger, and ye deported me: naked, and ye arrested me for indecency.

You should totally post that in Best Political Cartoons, if it's not there already.
