I getting really tired of the concept of hype. Yes, it's a good thing to get your game out there, showing the positives etc. But at the same time, it launches and basically it stabs you in the back.

"SWTOR isn't the WOW-killer I was expecting! It's now a failure in everyway to me!"
"GW2 isn't the WOW-killer I was expecting! It's now a failure in everyway to me!"

Massively Comments make my head hurt sometimes.

Ironically, it seems like 90% of the harmful hype ends up coming from the fanbase.  As is 90% of the loud disappointment.

People expect games to be perfect, and get sharply disappointed when it doesn't turn out that way.

I should add that Peter Molyneux is an exception.  Seriously, there's ambition, and then there's just outright lying about what you can accomplish.
Mockery of ideas you don't comprehend or understand is the surest mark of unintelligence.

Even the worst union is better than the best Walmart.

I'm currently about two thirds of the way through Banjo-Tooie, and I'm feeling rather forlorn that I've done everything there is to do in Witchyworld. The music in that level is freaking fantastic.

A certain boss almost ruined that level for me.

I played through To The Moon

I laughed at Dr. Watts, I would've cried if the former didn't keep ruining the mood, and I was baffled by how the developers tried to keep River's disorder ambiguous.

But, yeah, it's pretty good, albeit incredibly easy, which is okay, since the focus is on the storyline.

I've been playing Tooie as well, and the difference in the size of the worlds compared to the first one is insane. Since I never played this as a kid and have zero familiarity, it's kinda hard to navigate and figure out where the hell I am when I don't have the greatest view with the camera (although it is improved).
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

If a clown eats salmon on Tuesday, how much does a triangle weigh on Jupiter? Ask Mr. Wiggins for 10% off of your next dry cleaning bill. -Hades

When it comes to navigation, particularly in levels where everything looks more or less the same (looking at you, Grunty Industries), all I can say is warp pads are very much your friend. They and other means of fast travel make life a hell of a lot easier.

It is a bloody amazing game though, no? I tell you, as a kid it simply blew me away. The worlds, the move set, the various jiggies. Everything's just so much bigger and better. Not to mention the fact that they managed to get an E rating despite all the barely concealed innuendo. Rare was a freaking god in those days.

My computer is having trouble handling Minecraft of all things. What's weird is that it handles more graphics- processing power-intensive games quite well. Maybe it's just loading a ton of chunks all at once, or maybe it's because I'm in a jungle temple right now, and therefore there are a lot of surrounding trees and plenty of redstone.

Actually, come to think of it, my old computer (which I replaced with my Alienware one because the former became unbearably slow) could run Minecraft better than my Alienware PC is.

I wonder if it's possible to sue Dell for false advertising since they directed me to the Alienware site in the first place.

EDIT: Minecraft is working fine in the browser, oddly enough.

Anyone else seem interested in FTL - Faster Than Light? I just watched a first impressions of it and I must say, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Methinks I'll definitely grab it on GOG once it's released.

Personally, I think its a problem with the Java Runtime, itself.  Its a well-known resource hog, is horribly inefficient, and is...really bloody slow with even the simplest tasks.  The reason more processor/graphics-intensive games run better than the relatively simple machine that is Minecraft is because, unlike Minecraft, pretty much every game ever is made with C++, or some other compiled language, which means no overhead from JIT compilation, bytecode interpretation, and the like, which means greatly improved performance.

Well, okay, but... why is it running better on the browser than via the launcher?

My guess would be because the browser version of Java is tailored to its environment.  Speed on the internet is key, if your site and/or online software is slow, then people will likely get bored and use someone else's site/service/whatever.  As a platform for stand-alone software, they could afford to take hits to performance...used to be, this was because they were really the only widely-accepted cross-platform, interpreted language around.  Now, its simply because Oracle's slow to adapt to a changing environment, and if they continue like this, Java will soon fade into obscurity while its primary competitors, Python and .Net, take over where it left off.

[ETA]

Okay, okay, you motherfuckers have to see this.

I decided to pop into a randomly-generated MystCraft world in Technic, in my increasingly frustrated quest to find cacti (for waterproofing), as I spawned in a fucking taiga biome the size of Texas.  I eventually found myself here, in the age I've appropriately called "Yawning Abyss."  You're seeing that right, I'm at layer 1.  I am literally mining one broken block away from falling into the void.

That was the most tense mining experience I've ever fucking had, but I got 18 diamonds out of the deal, so its not like I came away empty-handed.

Check gearbox's youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/gearboxsoftware?feature=g-all-u

Seems to do a good job of selling it.

But minecraft isn't written spectacularly well and it's core gameplay mechanic is prone to massive memmory chewing(and thus hitting major processing bottle necks). It's probably as much that the code sucks as any possible issue with your computer. If I was going to guess I'd say high speed ram and possibly even hard drive would have better increases than processing or GPU inprovements. Possibly more ram if it's taking up that much, but I kinda doubt it.

A few questions about DDO...

I started a Ranger (with 1 level of Rogue), eventually going Deepwood Sniper. I'm enjoying it enough to be considering actually buying some Turbine Points and Adventure Packs. My favorite class (and the class I wanted to play when DDO came out in 2006) is Monk, so that is almost certainly a to-buy. I'm also considering the Menace of the Underdark Standard Edition (which comes with more stuff, including the Druid class). My other option is buy just the Druid class.

Given that I play mostly solo (and probably will continue that way, unless I get so into it I decide to join a guild), would it be worth it to buy the Adventure Pack, or just get the classes? Also, how do I go about earning Renown with House Cannith to unlock Artificer?

Adventure packs are a worthy investment, even for solo players.  More variety, easier experience, and better loot.  As for the Artificer, I know that the Cannith challenge missions give ya favor.  The quests in Secrets of the Artificers are all pretty high-level, but Vaults of the Artificers will give you access to all the challenges any time you happen to want to enter one.
