Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Corinthians 13: 4-7

I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

Mr. Minister, tear down that statue!
History is full of maniacs, my friend, men and women of intelect, highly perceptive individuals, who's brilliant minds know neither restraint nor taboo. Such notions are the devils we must slay for the edification of pony-kind. Even if said edification means violating the rules of decency, society, and rightousness itself.

Seeing that just reminds me of how the whole numbering at 10 thing is rather suspect. See, my school went with the version that had the “No other gods” and “No graven images” bit as one commandment and “Not covet your neighbor’s wife” and “Not covet your neighbor’s stuff” as separate commandments. It was years before I realized there was a different counting scheme going on with a lot of other folks.

Yep. And you know, this morning, I woke up to NPR Morning Edition with a brief story on all the fundies that insist Juesus and the Bible were anti-socialism and whatnot. Go figure.

There are at least three counting schemes that I know of. The Jewish one has "I am the LORD your G-D" as the first.

Mr. Minister, tear down that statue!

The best part?  Those 10 Commandments statues have nothing to do with America's alleged "Judeo-Christian"* heritage.  They were part of a viral marketing campaign for a 1956 film starring Charlton Heston, the title of which should be obvious.

That's right.  The idiots defending those plaques and statues are basically pushing for the courthouse-property equivalent of a Burma-Shave sign, or a big neon "Eat At Joe's."

* There are Jews.  There are Christians.  But there is not, and never has been, any such fucking thing as a "Judeo-Christian" and the word itself just makes me sick.
