Report on CIA torture is now public
« on: December 09, 2014, 12:12:35 pm »
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-30401100

No real suprises, but the main points BBC mentions bring up a rather sad picture:
Quote
At no time did coercive interrogation techniques lead of collection of intelligence on imminent threats

None of 20 cases of counterterrorism "successes" attributed to the techniques led to unique or otherwise unavailable intelligence

The CIA misled politicians and public, giving inaccurate information to obtain approval for using techniques

The CIA claimed falsely that no senators had objected to the programme.

Management of the programme was deeply flawed, for example the operation of the second detention facility, known as COBALT

At least 26 of 119 known detainees in custody during the life of the programme were wrongfully held, and many held for months longer than they should have been

Aggressive techniques were used on suspects from the start, despite CIA claims that interrogations would begin with less coercive methods

Methods included sleep deprivation for up to 180 hours, often standing or in painful positions

Waterboarding was physically harmful to prisoners, causing convulsions and vomiting

So will this finally shut up those who keep claiming that the torture was necessary and lead to capturing Osama?
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

Torture didn't work?  Well, fuck me, its almost as if torture never fucking works or something.  They're just going to tell you the first thing they think of to make the pain stop.  Its unnecessary and barbaric.  Not to mention its supposed efficacy has been shattered by modern psychology.  But, hey, who listens to scientists, right?  I mean, we're still scared about nuclear power because a couple of morons who ought not to have operated anything more complex than a bag of crisps somehow found themselves in charge of a nuclear reactor and it, quite predictably, melted down.  Nearly 30 god damned years ago.

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

Even if it started under Bush, Obama kept it going and punished whistleblowers.

Ironbite-yeah not a pass on this one.

Obama was more than happy to keep the torture train going, though.

Bush started it, and Obama continued it, right up until he no longer could.

...So...DON'T invade countries for flimsy, made-up excuses or make torture your go-to method for interrogation?

Wow, that fox news bit was painful to watch. I dont know why I did that to myself.

Are American's really fooled by the blatant and obvious deflections of questions like that. Its astounding.

Still, as nice as having this report out is, it really reveals nothing we didn't already know, and wont change anything. Its not like the people involved will be arrested for war crimes.

Based on the comments the torture wasn't that bad because:

a) THE JEWSSS DID THIS!

b) It was ok because Russia.

c) Muslims also torture.

d) CIA was just defending usa BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY like they are supposed to.

e) There is no public outrage because the BLACKS have already filled the streets with their riots over the little things like police killing unarmed people and "us crackers" vote rather than chimp out.

EDIT: I am going to say that d at least is refreshingly honest in being openly evil. So many excuses around this subject but a few people honestly think that there is nothing wrong in torture if it is being done by their side.

Washington post had a nice comparison between this report and the testimony by the CIA director:
