So I was listening to the radio on the way in to work today, and I heard an ad for New Gingrich. I was so appalled I almost had to pull off the road. The slogan for this ad was, and I'm NOT kidding, "NEWT WHIPS OBAMA."

Really, Newt? "Newt Whips Obama?" Will the television commercial have stock footage of field slaves in the plantation just to make sure no one misses the not-so-subtle point?

Now, they were using it (supposedly) in the context of "whipping" someone in a debate, but for the love of all that's Holy, when you are a white man running against a black man....YOU DO NOT SAY THIS. Is he deliberately trying to appeal to racists? Is this some kind of wink-wink-nudge-nudge deniable appeal to racism?

I'm going to go with "deliberately racist," because if there's anything Republicans know how to do, it's how to appeal to racist voters without being obviously racist.

From what I've seen of Newt he is a truly despicable person with no moral worth. I think it is deliberately dog-whistle racist with just enough plausible deniability.

Seriously though is there a GOP contender who isn't a worthless pile of puss?

It's a shame McCain or Colin Powel aren't in the race.

Wow... that's just... just wow. I kind of want to believe it's stupidity, but it's hard to believe anyone could be that stupid without being required to be supervised by an adult at all times.

And no, davedan. This is easily the most worthless crop of republican candidates in recent memory. Which is kind of an accomplishment in its own right, when you consider past elections.
