Fuck you, NYC D of E, my friend's mother got breast cancer when she was just in third grade and you think she shouldn't be allowed to talk about it because it might offend?
The same goes for talking about crime, divorce, and other traumas. It will not go away simply because you refuse to talk about it. I hope this law doesn't apply to school counselors, because sometimes kids just desperately need a place to vent but don't have a safe F&B section to do it in.
And what kid doesn't make poop jokes at some point in their life? Seriously I remember a whole bunch of kids used the word "poopy" instead of "shitty." It's childish but at least they're not swearing. Leave that to the experts.
And what is this thing about not talking about signs of wealth? Some kids come from wealthier families than others. That's a fact that all kids will have to deal with in elementary school, or they become envious and insecure adults.
And sports? I understand the frustration of walking in a room and having no idea what everyone is talking about, but you're going to ban discussions about sports now? They do have sports teams in NYC schools, right?
And what happens if kids aren't allowed to talk about "vermin"? Does that mean if they see a mouse or a roach loose in the classroom, they're not allowed to tell the teacher about it?
And what's worst of all, these kids will grow up without the benefit of Harry Potter due to NYC D of E's ban on "witchcraft and sorcery."
