Fox News analyst wants to lead coup against Obama
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:10:03 pm »
This just came across my dash, even though it's almost 8 weeks old. Still, how are these people allowed to get away with talking like this?

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/01/27/fox-news-analyst-tells-tea-party-group-he-can-lead-a-military-coup-against-obama/

Quote
Paul Vallely, a retired major general and senior military analyst for the conservative news channel, told the Surprise, Arizona, Tea Party Patriots during a Dec. 3 speech that other retired military personnel and veterans groups had contacted him about the possibility.

“I had a call this afternoon from Idaho, the gentleman said, ‘If I give you 250,000 Marines to go to Washington, will you lead them?’” Vallely said as the group laughed and gasped. “I said, ‘Yes, I will, I’ll surround the White House and I’ll surround the Capitol building, but it’s going to take physical presence to do things.”

I meant an actual meatspace fight, but I forgot that "flamewar" is an interwebz-exclusive term. I guess "firefight" would be more accurate, but also somewhat tasteless.

Actually, I like calling it a flamewar, because it basically is.

These people wouldn't know how to lead a coup out of a paper bag.  The most they can do is shout insults at anyone who disagrees with them.

Pretty much. There's really no point in even speculating about "if it happens".

... Last I checked, isn't that a seditious statement you could be arrested for?

Very much so, which is why I was wondering why they're allowed to get away with it.

He might be getting a knock on the door from the Secret Service soon, if we're lucky.

On the positive side, if he does get involved in an armed rebellion, at least he is an moron and easy to outsmart.

...I am hoping this will be followed by a series of such phonecalls to right wing loonies:

"Hey there Mr. X, would you like to take up arms against the president in a open rebellion? Thank you and could you verify that this is Mr. X that I'm talking to who wants an rebellion in USA? Thank you again, FBI will be showing up at your door later today."

Yeaaaaaah, isn't that kind of shit kinda sorta considered fucking treason?  Also, do we even have a quarter million Marines in our armed forces?

Not in active service (195'000 according to wikipedia), but I guess you can count the retired ones as well.

I've only visited DC twice, last time maybe 25 years ago, but I remember even then how impressive and intimidating the only-barely-hidden defense infrastructure is. Good luck with that, General Has Been...

The amusing thing is he couldn't get all of our Marines to agree to this coup either.  There are some who would be on the President's side and would in fact defend him to the death.  Not to mention all the other branches of the Armed Forces that would spring up to defend the capitol.

Ironbite-moron didn't think things through.
