Hungar Games Movie

So I see a movie is about to debut based off this book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunger_Games  I had never heard of the book before today, however once looking at the plot details I couldn't help but get deja vu.  Is hungar games a rip off of the Japanese movie Battle Royale? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/   There definitely seems to be a lot of similarity to me at least.  If I had to use a analogy I would say hungar games is to Battle Royale as Lion King is to Kimba the White Lion.

Anyone else agree or disagree?

First of all, why is there an a in Hunger?

Secondly, yes. Massive ripoff. Doesn't make it bad, of course, but it does make it derivative.
