Title: Where is the kingdom of God?
Post by: arunangelo on August 03, 2013, 02:53:07 am
The kingdom of God is within our hearts (Luke 17:21). It is the spirit of Jesus which is unconditional, selfless, sacrificial, merciful, humble, ever-forgiving and faithful. This spirit is instilled in every human heart (Ezekiel 36:27) through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Those who make him the Lord of their life by accepting his spirit (Romans 10:9), are enabled by the spirit to love their enemies, do good to those who hurt and betray them, offer the other cheek if struck on one, give without expecting anything in return, bring healing to their offenders by their prayers and acts of sacrificial love (Matthew 5:43-48), consider others as superior to them, seek the interest of others over their own (Philippians 2:3-4) and stay faithful to their marriage vows even when there is hurt and unfaithfulness (Luke 6:18 & Hosea 3:1).

The kingdom of God is within our hearts
Yeah, about that. A while back, the left ventricle was annexed by the City State of Arceus while the right atrium fell to the Empire of Buddha. As if that wasn't enough, the rest of the heart proper, angered by higher army levies and wartime taxes as well as the failure to hold half the kingdom, seceded to form the Independent Duchy of Left Atrium and the Republic of Right Ventricle. Currently the Kingdom of God only exists as a rump state within the aorta, and given the current military build up in the new republic, even that may not be around for much longer.

Ok, serious answer here.

The kingdom of god is not in the heart, but in the mind.  It resides in the minds of those that for whatever reason can't let go of ideas rooted in ancient fears and wonder concerning the world in which they lived.  As much as man's knowledge concerning his world (and universe) has expanded to explain much of what was unknown to the ancients, mankind has held onto those original concepts despite evidence to the contrary.

And, once again, quoting scriptures from ancient texts based on those ideas ain't going to impress too many people here.

People can do all that crap without Jesus, though I don't see much reason to do good to someone who hurts me or a loved one.

Not exclusive to accepting the Lord.

Working with your relationships because there are major problems is fine when it's in and off itself. However, the type of relationship you describe sounds almost toxic.

The Kingdom of God has been missing for some time now, and science is mystified.  When last seen it was northwest of Hoboken, New Jersey, and rotating counterclockwise.

I would have came up with a response like every other time this person pops up on this forum, but I can't come up with anything witty right now.

Especially considering this person is a drive-by evangelist who thinks we're all a bunch of weak-minded people (I would have said "weak-minded atheists," but some of our user base are religious, but not fanatical bullies everyone sane here despises of*) who'll just "come to Jesus" over several paragraphs laced with Bible quotations.

*And I would also mention that any fundamentalist Christian will call "No True Scotsman" to anyone on this site who is a Christian themselves, but these people follow black and white thinking and hates everyone who isn't "for them."

Arunangelo, in case you're actually reading this: You are a coward, and your faith is weak. If you had any courage or faith in your convictions, you wouldn't tuck tail and run after posting. I think you are deeply afraid that if you actually stuck around and talked/discussed/debated with us, we might convince you that you're wrong about god and the truth of the bible. And that means that deep down, you don't really believe it yourself.

It is the spirit of Jesus which is unconditional, selfless, sacrificial, merciful, humble, ever-forgiving and faithful.

I could argue that Jesus had none of these qualities, using examples from the Bible. "Love me or I torture you forever" is the very definition of conditional. Also humble people don't call themselves "The Light of the World" as Jesus did. And by resurrecting himself he didn't sacrifice anything. And denying people a drop of water in Hell isn't merciful. I could go on...

The Kingdom of God?  Oh!  You mean Valhalla!

Seriously, your saviour got nailed to a stick and killed by a bunch of pussy-ass Italians.  Thor kills a wolf the size of a mountain with a god damned hammer.

Thor doesn't kill Fenrir. He kills Jörmungandr. Víðarr kills Fenrir.

Ohhhhh, yeah.../derp.  Still, he kills a SNAKE the size of a mountain with a god damned hammer.  Either way, its still pretty badass, and Jesus is still a pussy.

This right here.  It was people like Sandman who made me more curious about having a religion than this drive-by evangelism that gets blown down like a house of cards every time.  And then people just love to claim that "lifestyle evangelism" is worthless.

Things like this are one of the reasons why I'm glad that most spiritualities that are in the umbrella of "Paganism" seem to strictly forbid proselytizing.
