Probably the most wild abuse of the laws against "child pornography" I've ever seen.

My favourite part: their accusation is that a 17 year old produced child pornography by taking a photograph of himself - with, obviously, his own consent. The police also want to produce child pornography by forcing him to take a similar photograph. Without consent! What insanity!

Balloon Juice is right, but doesn't go far enough. Everyone involved in the prosecution side of the case, who cannot prove that they strenuously objected to this criminal prosecution, should go to jail for abuse of power. And then to hell. Fuck them. If they manage to coerce him to become erect and then take photographs, other police should immediately arrest them on charges of manufacturing and possessing child pornography and also on a charge of non-penetrative rape.

I also like it how the child sex offender list includes becomes gradually less accurate through these cases - including more and more people like this, who are not child sex offenders. How do people tell which people on the list are genuine criminals, and which are merely the victims of the abuse of power by police and prosecutors? Obviously, people can't trust the actual list any more. This is even worse for the dude falsely prosecuted, because of the number of ludicrous regulations regarding where he can live and so on. Despite the fact that he didn't commit what anyone with half a brain could consider a crime.

And this is a couple of days after I hear of a story where cops charge two men with a felony for flying a drone too close to a helicopter.  I don't care if it's 'not all cops' or what ever bullshit apologists spout.  The fact peoples lives can be ruined over this kneejerk bullshit is terrifying.

As stated by a Cracked Article, the cops are basically the Evil Fascist State Police from a Dystopian Young Adult Novel by now.

They follow the Machiavellian Rule - tis better to be feared than it is to be loved.

And given Machiavelli's real beliefs, that just makes them look worse.

People always look at me weird for enjoying making scenes in my books where the supernatural villain of the week slaughters local police as an intro to his character.

...Things like this are why I enjoy such scenes so much.

Hey, that's your privilege as an author.  Enjoy it.

As for the subject at hand, it's an utter violation of common sense to convict someone of "child porn possession" when they are an older teenager and the picture is of themselves.  You cannot rape yourself.  You cannot molest yourself.  You cannot do anything to yourself without your consent, because obviously.  (Note that being coerced is someone making you do something.)

So now, a guy's life is about to be ruined forever because of a simple thing that people who are having sexual relationships are inclined to do.  All because he hadn't ticked that magic number 18.

So, actually, I'm pretty mad about this.
