Jan Brewer: Dude, Where's My Respect?
« on: January 28, 2012, 12:23:55 am »
So Obama went to Arizona for some campaigning and this photo happens:

Quote
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's meeting with President Barack Obama on a Phoenix airport tarmac resulted in an image of the commander-in-chief on the receiving end of an index finger pointed directly at his face.

The two had been entangled in a heated battle over immigration policy, as Obama's Department of Justice is suing Arizona for implementing a draconian law that the administration says encroaches on federal power. Brewer, for her part, said she supports the immigration law, which is now before the U.S. Supreme Court, because the federal government has failed to control immigration and enforce the nation's laws.

Quote
On Wednesday afternoon, Obama touched down in Phoenix and was greeted by Brewer on the tarmac. They reportedly "spoke intensely for a few minutes." Brewer said it was because "he was a little disturbed about my book," particularly a passage in which she had depicted Obama as "patronizing" during an earlier visit.

Brewer has since addressed the issue in a number of interviews, claiming that President Obama had insisted on talking about the treatment he had received in her book, rather than the economic issues currently facing her state.

"He was somewhat thin-skinned and a little tense to say the least. I was trying to be very calm," Brewer told radio host Mike Broomhead on KFYI radio, according to BuzzFeed.

She repeated similar comments in an interview with reporters on the tarmac, shown above, saying, "I thought that he was pretty thin-skinned."

Quote
"The bottom line is the book is factual. The book is true. I want our borders secured. I want our nation protected. He wants amnesty. We're never going to agree on that. So I don't know why he was surprised by my book," she said. "He evidently is and thin-skinned in regards to it."

So what do you guys think? Was she justified? Was she disrespectful?

Yeah, she really looks calm in that picture. Seriously, Obama's face says it all.

Man, if someone was yelling at me, sticking their finger in my face, it'd be all I could do to just stand there and take it.

Also, I think this sums up what I think:

Quote
Even if Brewer is a naturally handsy talker, this is quite the image. Generally, giving the president the finger is frowned upon, no matter which finger it happens to be. And this is the schoolmarm point, the Listen Up, Mister, I Haven’t Finished With You Yet, the Let Me Tell You A Thing Or Two.

Yeah, I think it was rather rude. Also, I'm sick of these assholes whining about the whole "illegal immigration" problem when their policies aren't helping, god forbid we reform the process or even think about going after the corporations/businesses that help in contributing to illegals coming here from the first place.

I don't care who you are or what your issue is, you don't shake your finger in the President of the United State's face. (Or any legitimately elected world leader, now that I think about it.)  Remember when Bush was in the White House and the Republicans were very critical of anything they interpreted as disrespect, chiding the Democrats that "if you don't respect the man, you must still respect the office?" Well, it seems that only applies to Democrats apparently. I despise Bush, but if I had met him when he was still president I would have shaken his hand, called him "Mr. President," and been polite and respectful. That's just common courtesy and general standards of adult behavior.

I don't believe for a minute that Jan friggin' Brewer was unaware of the cameras. This was a staged, ambush photo-op. She wanted to get her picture out there scolding the President to score points with the conservative base. It's no different from that asshole who shouted "YOU LIE!" at President Obama during the SOTUS a while back. Instead of dismissing the disrespectful idiot as the buffoon he most certainly was, he was lauded by many Republicans for "telling it like it is" and "standing up to Obama." (Those of us who live in the adult world are aware of the fact that anytime anyone says they "tell it like it is," what they really mean is "I am a rude asshole who doesn't know the basic tenets of adult behavior.") Brewer is no different. She was deliberately rude and disrespectful of the President, and she did it in a time and place where she knew her little staged finger-wag would make the papers. But rather than be chided for her transparent, manipulative rudeness, she will be feted as some kind of conservative hero or something.

I know it would pretty much cost him the election....but it might almost have been worth it to see President Obama just bitch-slap that manipulative attention whore right there on the tarmac.

I just love how she repeatedly called him "thin-skinned." It's as if she thinks she needs to drill that into everyone's heads!

This. Especially because he wasn't the one shaking a finger in the face of someone he disagrees with.

I have to commend Obama for not slapping her. I probably wouldn't have been able to resist doing it.

I agree with Sandman. Conveniently staged photo-op.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Corinthians 13: 4-7

Pretty much that.  She came out to the tarmac and new exactly what she was doing.  Something so disgusting and disrespectful that it should cost her.  But it won't.

Ironbite-cause the Conservatives are idiots.
