After the recent Team Four Star drama, I think this is something to be talked about.

Long story short, a lot of prominent users are getting fed up with YouTube's copyright policy. So now they're demanding change.

Youtube couldn't change even if they wanted to. The reason they have the auto-flagger and guilty until proven innocent approach to copyright in the first place is because they're legally obligated to do so. It was part of the settlement they made with some record label a while back when they were sued for allowing copyright infringement on their site.
Because of that, the only solution is to leave Youtube for a site that is at least capable of not being this shitty. No amount of demands from users are going to make any difference.

If that's the case, then maybe ZippCast (http://www.zippcast.com/) might be a good alternative.

Holy fuck, that site's still around? I could've sworn it went under around 2012/2013.

1. I thought YouTube won that lawsuit due to the safe harbor proviso?
2. Zippcast atm unfortunately isn't an alternative, if you want you're content to be seen, monetized or even on general radar you're going to have to put it on YT.
3. YT is merely going to (if they haven't already) give some PR speech about how they're listening to complaints
4. Any change is most likely going to come if/when someone legally challenges a false-flag DMCA in court

There are a very small handful of Youtubers who have made a fuckton of money who could afford to challenge something in court. Although few of them seem to have the same trouble with copyright as smaller channels which some smaller Youtubers find suspicious, suggesting Youtube treats the channels that bring them the most money differently to those that only bring them in a few quid, but they could use that money to help someone who is being fucked with to take the people in question to court.
I mean this bollocks where literally anyone can make a false claim against a video and take the money it generates for a month, without having to give it back if the claim runs out and the monetisation reverts back to the creator, is just straight up theft. It's happened to videos that are 100% the creators own content, such as videos of songs that the uploader wrote and performed themselves. Even when the video does contain some copyrighted content sometimes the claim is made by someone with no connection to the copyright holders, as the Youtuber discovers when they investigate the name of the group making the claim and contact the actual copyright holders to ask if these people have anything to do with them.
Somebody needs to sue the ever loving shit out of these fuckers and press for criminal charges as well. But that takes both money and balls and I'm guessing the big Youtuber's who could actually afford to pay the legal fees for another less fortunate Youtuber make too much money and get too much preferential treatment from Youtube to want to rock the boat.

Also, Youtube needs some actual competition because right now, despite there being other video sharing sites, none of them are even close to being any kind of realistic rival or threat to Youtube. But that's far easy said than done.

Youtube actually had some competition with Blip. Then Maker, one of the biggest Youtube networks out there, went and bought it and bye it went.
Ironbite-after Maker got swallowed up by Disney of course.

did Blip have decent or comparable ad-services? Cause any future competition is going to need them and they'll cost a fuckton of cash even before operating losses

Yeah, blip was solid, ad-wise. The only problem is that sometimes their player would shit itself.
