Title: Target removes gendered signs in the Toy Aisle
Post by: Cataclysm on August 10, 2015, 08:25:05 pm

Cue the ignrant facebook comments.

I always shopped at Target, but as today I will not step foot in their stores, I have Grandchildren I always bought for, and I will not be forced to turn them gay. I am so offended with what these store are doing, telling us dress your daughter like a boy, heck better yet dress your son like a girl, sounds stupid right, because it is, leave things the way they were.

lol

How would this force anything on anyone? I can't even comprehend the stupidity that went into that.

It's about framing it in the Big Gender Norms Debate. If you remove the gendered signs then you are siding with those heathens that want boys to wear pink and girls to play with trucks, and therefore want to make kids gay.

Wasn't it pretty common for boys to wear garments very similar to girls' dresses until around age 6 or so up until the 1930s or so?

And red used to be they "boy colour" while blue was the same for girls. Because blue is a calm colour while red is much more "manly and agressive." Customs change and for the record: making toys as gender oriented as western culture has is a "relatively" new thing if I've understood correctly.

Not that there wouldn't have always been some girl toys and boy toys, but these days some people seem to get into panic if a child is playing with "wrong" toys and I get the impression that things weren't always so strict.

When we get presents for kids, not just our kids, we ask and see what they want. I've stopped looking at genders for toys a long time ago.

Proves it. First a breakdown of gender norms. Then outright socialism!!!

I'm kind of meh on this.  The comments from those opposing this decision are OTT and hilarious.  But had they left the gendered signs the way they were, I don't think it would have mattered.
