New Petition: Lawmakers Must Wear Donors' Logos
« on: March 21, 2013, 02:27:35 pm »
I usually don't pay much attention to White House "We the People" petitions, but I found this one to be funny and imaginative. This petition demands that lawmakers wear the logos of their corporate donors, NASCAR style, in order to determine who they have been accepting money from. The rule would be: the larger the donation, the larger the logo patch would be on their clothing. Since many people are outraged by the ubiquity of corporate cash in politics, especially in our post-Citizens United age, I just thought it would be a fun little petition to sign, even if it won't have any effects.

Quote
Since most politicians' campaigns are largely funded by wealthy companies and individuals, it would give voters a better sense of who the candidate they are voting for is actually representing if the company's logo, or individual's name, was prominently displayed upon the candidate's clothing at all public appearances and campaign events. Once elected, the candidate would be required to continue to wear those "sponsor's" names during all official duties and visits to constituents. The size of a logo or name would vary with the size of a donation. For example, a $1 million dollar contribution would warrant a patch of about 4" by 8" on the chest, while a free meal from a lobbyist would be represented by a quarter-sized button. Individual donations under $1000 are exempt.

Super PACS will get around this sadly. Because a way for forcing them to disclose finical info is needed.
Despite knowing about indoctrination I thought it was a good idea to put a human Reaper near my office. Now I am a sentient husk :(.

If this means that they'll wear bright jumpsuits, then signed.

The logos should be percentage of contributions = size of label. Imagine it on the states' level, too. All these clowns running around state capitol buildings with KOCH and ALEC body wraps :P. They'd need to add long, sweeping capes for some of the reps in DC to get everything on there to spec XD...can you say, Super Douche? I'm looking at you, Boehner.

Those cars are capable of turning right? I thought they just disabled that option since it was useless.

Lawmaker:  "It's a violation of my rights!"

*signs law to ban SSM and abortion in his state.*
Whenever I hear a politician speaking strongly for or against abortion, all I hear is, "I have no idea how to fix the economy!"

The logos should be percentage of contributions = size of label.

I disagree. If I'm understanding you correctly (and I apologise if I'm wrong) all candidates, not matter how corrupt, would have their entire clothing covered in corporate sponsors' logos. That works if you want to know who a candidate is beholden to and how much they're beholden for, which is good- but I think it's more important to know how much of a whore they are. People who receive less funding than the best-funded sitting member should have white places of not-corruption, wheras the biggest whore should have no space free at all.

You understand my concept correctly, Fred. And I like your counter idea of non-corruption space for the more honest pols.

Hmnn... yeah, but non-corrupted space makes their success as likely as a stock car with equally non-corrupted sponsor space (monetarily anyway).   Start and Park candidates.
