well... shit.  I really feel for Curt Schilling.  He poured his heart and several million bucks into 38 Studios.

I think what happened was the game needed to sell 3 million units to meet investor expectations.  What new IP sells that much that doesnt have a brand name dev tied to it

KoA didn't.

And Minecraft probably has a much larger initial development cost to sales ratio than KoA.  Same goes for many mobile and social networking games.

Not so much word of mouth as a Youtube and modding community that would put even the most popular AAA game to shame.

That and it's very much the exception rather than the rule.

I also really liked the game. A bit too easy but very well made.

I couldn't get the demo to run so i didn't buy it however I will say the game probably was not bad.

A bit too easy but very well made.

Yeah.  The siege boss was actually harder than the final boss (WTF?), but overall I had a decent time playing it.
