"President Obama emphasized his Christian beliefs at this year's annual National Prayer Breakfast in. D.C. reports Laura MacInnis at Reuters. Citing his faith as his motivation for his support for higher taxes on the wealthy, Obama had this to say:

"But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus' teaching that 'for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,'"
But conservatives are crying foul. As David Nakamura and Michelle Boorstein of the Washington Post tell us,

Ralph Reed of the Faith and Freedom Coalition said that for the president to tie his tax policy to Jesus’s teachings “is theologically threadbare and straining credulity.”
Former GOP presidential contender Rick Perry has criticized the president for his "war on religion." Then again, it wasn't long ago that Obama was being called out by groups like Americans United for Separation of Church and State for referencing God more often than his predecessor, George W. Bush."

I don't believe anybody in a political setting these days does anything without some ulterior motive behind them. I support Obama because I agree with him on a number of issues, but trust him (or any politician)? I cannot. If I turn out to be wrong on this, I'm sorry, but it's too easy to simply assume that politicians will either lie or engage in half-truths, and it's easier to assume that they'll say what they think the public wants to hear.

Religion isn't supposed to be a bunch of "love" and "care for others" bullshit.  God will punish those who don't live according to his will, which happens to be the exact way I'm living (at least the parts I'm not hiding).  If you're not using your religion as a weapon to attack those who are different from you, you're doing it wrong!
