Odd Thing Happening

I stopped to talk to an old friend from High School, and her friend prayed for me. Had me say the words, and listen to her as she made proclamations.

By the end of it, I awkwardly thanked her for the "experience" and went my way. She was a young black woman, and by my estimation did not seem to use her religion as a license for hate. She and her friend were both very friendly.

But still, it was quite odd. Has anyone else had a similarly odd experience? Like, not a negative experience, but too awkward to describe as anything but...just a strange experience.

Don't know if this counts, but I talked with some Mormons on the other day and apparently they're not allowed to do dangerous shit or even wathc movies when they're on a mission.

I think I read earlier somewhere that the missionaries are encouraged to spy on each other to ensure that neither one breaks any of their little rules. I think they had a system in place that actively rewarded those who rat out their friends.

Do tell us, I'm quite curios.

On my own front, I once managed to scare away a JW by doing an imitation of the preacher from Skyrim. Saw who it was through the peephole, and then opened the door, threw my arms apart and started shouting "LET ME TELL YOU OF THE GLORY OF TALOS!"

i was visiting st. sernin's basilica in toulouse. i was curious, and it was shortly before vespers, i believe. the vicar took me in, and asked me to hide my egyptian sun-god pendant, which i did. he then proceeded to explain to me (an oblivious atheist) all the finer points of the church and the purposes behind all of the church's accoutrements. it lasted, what? twenty minutes, tops? but it was a: very nice of him to take the time, b: normally i should have paid, and c: enlightening. all i did was to be polite and obey the church's rules. to this day, this encounter has made me very curious about the finer points of architectural history. i managed to study the history of the catholic church as part of my history degree, but one day i'll go for a bachelor's in art history so as to better study the basilica.

this was one hell of a day and that memory will last until my dying day.

I think one of our members (Caitsidhe I think?) saw that happen a few years ago. Apparently they wound up in a really pathetic argument (think children insulting each other on the playground) during which they would occasionally pause to beg her to hear them out.

As I recall, she also mentioned answering the door to a couple of Mormons while topless. They kind of just sat there awkwardly for a couple minutes before running off.

I don't think I've ever seen any Mormons pop by here.  As far as I know it's all been JWs armed with copies of the Watchtower.
