terrorist attack in paris
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:00:38 pm »
60+ dead, the army's called in, hostage situation in the bataclan theater.

this is happening right now.

françois hollande, the president, has declared a state of alert. there is a curfew, the terrorists have been identified. he's just done a press conference outlining all this (it's midnight right now).

he's closing the borders.

this is bewildering.

plan red-alpha has been enacted, basically meant to counter multiple terrorist attacks. suicide bombs, shootings, the works. what the hell is going on?

Thanks for the links. Forumites: the footage reporter is commented in English and French. This is looking like France's 9/11 & 7/7. My online news service is over capacity and not working.

And we all thought it was a good day cuz Jihadi John got fragged.

Good day for the English speaking world.

Ironbite-this looks to have nothing to do with his death, more like a planned attack.

Shit... I don't know what to say. Best of luck to the people of France. They'll need it.

apparently, hollande and obama talked as soon as hollande got to safety (he was watching the match, france-germany in the stade de france when it got bombed).

obama did a press conference, apparently. same usual thing, "france is the oldest ally... this attack is against all of the free world... liberté, égalité, fraternité" (in french)

so, thanks obama for the support.

no clear idea who the perps are. daesh did call for an attack in france a few days back, but it could be any number of terrorist organization, for now.

eta: the three terrorists who shot up the bataclan theater got taken down. all dead. my sister's best friend lives two streets away, she heard the gunfire. and my fwb had some friends going to the show tonight.

my bewilderment is turning into moderate anxiety.

Jesus. Bloomberg TV is citing a unofficial figure of 100 dead at the theatre site, alone.

Do not crucify them. That bequeaths a martyr's look.

Plunge them into liquid so hot it will dissolve them...by the dozen.

Then send ISIL video of this happening a hundred times. See if they are so eager to wage war.

13/11. They write dates sanely in France.

i was thinking more along the lines of exemplary punishment, but i see where you're coming from, and i have to agree. dissuasive tactics, both, but yours seems more efficient, whereas mine capitalizes on schadenfreude.

goddammit, when are we gonna stop agreeing with each other?!

The question is, how long had this been planned?

i don't know. but i trust the french intelligence agencies to find out. for us laymen, it has been days at the earliest. that means weeks from the planned attack to the rumor mill. however, in a first world country that has prided itself as a bastion for immigrants and free people, this act is unacceptable. we should not be a target, but a beacon of hope. this makes me sick to my stomach.

i am having an angry moment, and that will be my understatement of the day.

I'm really scared for the refugees and vaguely Arabic groups in France right now, I'm geussing Far-right groups are going to gain a ton of power following this.

Expect stories of refugees being brutally beaten to trickle through over the next couple weeks.

Oh yeah, the European right is really happy right now. Not only can they blame immigrants and refugees, but President Hollande is gonna be a target of blame too.
