Title: Yet another reason to get angry at the RCC
Post by: Stormwarden on March 20, 2012, 09:32:20 pm
http://www.rnw.nl/africa/article/forced-castrations-reportedly-found-roman-catholic-care

Forced castration was a practice used in the RCC in Dutch RCC psych wards in the 1950s. It was usually done to those suspected of being homosexual, or someone who reported abuse by the clergy. Given the pattern of RCC behavior at the leadership level, they'll probably be fighting these allegations tooth and claw.

Right, back to the angry demiplane for me.

Waitwaitwait...hold the phone.  I thought cutting off a man's fuck gear made him holy.

(And, no, that was not a horrifying pun.)

@RavynousHunter: It's also a punishment in the '50s, it would appear. Who knew a bunch of celibate old bastards could be like that, huh?

I think this would be an appropriate use of "an eye for an eye". Or, in this case, a dick for a dick.

This really does not surprise me in the least.
Homosexuality was something strange and unexplained in those days and actions such as these are perfectly in line with what I would expect very religious countries to do. In the thinking of the time this was seen not so much as a way of punishing the gays as it was seen as a way to save and redeem them. Then as time moved on and science learned more and more about homosexuality and human sexuality in general such actions for the most part stopped. (I say for the most part because of course gays are still killed in a sadly high number of countries.)
