Title: #Snoutrage
Post by: davedan on September 22, 2015, 09:49:12 pm
This isn't to continue the mocking that I am trying to perpetuate in Thread Killer but rather to discuss the darker and more serious aspect of the Snoutrage saga surrounding David Cameron.

A good article on this is http://www.robfahey.co.uk/blog/the-pm-the-pig-and-musings-on-power/ (http://www.robfahey.co.uk/blog/the-pm-the-pig-and-musings-on-power/) There appear to be a couple of really disturbing aspects of this sage for British democracy.

Firstly it would appear David Cameron was aware that Lord Ashcroft was a tax exile from Britain when he was appointed to the House of Lards (sorry Lords).

Secondly it appears that Lord Ashscroft because he has donated staggering sums of money to the Tories expected to be rewarded with a posting. When that did not materialise he felt sufficiently betrayed that he decided to knife Cameron. He appears to be unabashed that this is all the result of his own failed simony.

Confession time: when I first heard of this, I thought it was a joke, like that meme about Glenn Beck raping and murdering a young girl in 1990.

I literally couldn't believe it at first. It sounds like something that would be made up by some cheap Onion knockoff. I'm starting to think No-Bark Noonan from New Vegas was right. It's the normal ones you have to look out for.

It's fucking glorious isn't it.

A former president of the Piers Gaviston Society weighs in: http://www.lrb.co.uk/2015/09/23/nick-richardson/short-cuts?utm_source=The+Shortlist+Daily&utm_campaign=a705c85af4-The_Shortlist_Daily_24_September_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7870ce0889-a705c85af4-303185137 (http://www.lrb.co.uk/2015/09/23/nick-richardson/short-cuts?utm_source=The+Shortlist+Daily&utm_campaign=a705c85af4-The_Shortlist_Daily_24_September_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7870ce0889-a705c85af4-303185137)

The best bit is the reference to wanting to be in a pornified Evelyn Waugh novel.

I'm a dumb American and I haven't been following any of this. Can you guys give me a short summary of what this "Snoutrage" thing is? Was Cameron caught sexin' up a pig? Was he floating over Battersea Power Station. Is he bigoted against big-nosed people? Does this involve cops? What is "Snoutrage" and why is it so WEIRD?

Some guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ashcroft) wrote a book saying that British PM David Cameron put his dick inside a dead pig's head when he was in college as part of an initiation ritual for something called the Piers Gaveston Society (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piers_Gaveston_Society), and that supposedly there's photographic evidence (has not surfaced yet, as far as I know).

It's also curiously similar to the events of the first episode of Black Mirror, where, well, the Prime Minister fucks a pig.

Ah, so college fratboy David Cameron pulled a Putrid Sex Object on a pig's head. Yes; That's pretty darn weird!

Can't wait til the pics come out, if they exist. THAT would be a doozy! It'll be all over the Shock/Gore sites!

That's even loopier than the "Rand Paul/'Aqua Buddha'" collegiate-based weirdness.

[Rand Paul as a college kid was part of a club and they made up an imaginary deity called 'Aqua Buddha'. Rand kidnapped a fellow student and forced her to worship it...or something dumb along those lines.]

[Putrid Sex Object is a shock video. Some amateur artsy-type vingnette where a drag queen in a blue wig walks around a dark spooky abandoned house, finds a skinless, bloody cow or horse head and......did what Cameron allegedly did]

... i swear, politics is the weirdness magnet of the world.

I mean, to some extent it's just that politicians need to have this aura of respectfulness and it's glaring when it fails.

If this was just "some idiots in college sometimes fuck the heads of dead animals" this is a non-story. But add the British PM and suddenly it's the best thing that happened in the year of our Lord two thousand and fifteen.

Not even joking. If someone asks me, what event of 2015 inspired the most joy, the answer is without a doubt the allegation that David Cameron fucked a pig. I don't even care about British politics. I half suspect this didn't happen. And yet, I cannot stop myself from celebrating every time I see a #snoutrage joke in my dash or twitter timeline or the wider internet.

Anyway. The point is, it's not that politics attracts weirdness, but that it makes weird things all the more weird and entertaining.

sure, everybody's entitled to their secret gardens or skeletons in their closet, but check out any politician scandal and things get fucked up real fast. bush jr. in skull and bones? no big deal, everybody knows about secret societies. but then you hit anti-gay politicians doing blowjobs in men's bathrooms, that's pretty kinky. it's less about the weirdness of it, more the hypocrisy of it.

honestly, i don't care. i thought it was an onion post it was so far-fetched. i'm not grossed out, barely grinning at the mental image. hell, i make so many jokes about necrophilia, zoophilia, or combinations of both, i get a kick out of making people think i am either. if it's a true story, then kudos to cameron for pulling off necro-zoophilia (the act, not a metal band). if it's bull, we've still got loads of smoking guns about "respectable" scumbags politicians.

and if anyone feels inclined to name names, try to avoid bdsm, because that is such a passé kink. (fun fact, fat mike of nofx has been in a loving committed bdsm relationship with his wife for over 20 years).

"Politician" is like the occupational equivalent of "Florida".

Mind if I remove the "like" (it makes a stronger statement as a metaphor than a simile) and sig-quote that?

The funniest thing about this is how, after the rumours surfaced, various colleagues and friends of David Cameron tried to rebut the claims by saying that they'd never heard of him being in the Piers Gaviston society, which isn't actually a flat-out denial. Instead, it just raises the possibility that Cameron face-fucked a dead pig whilst the PG members looked on, pulling their best Simon Cowell impressions with faces set to maximum dispassionate mode, and then said-

"I'm afraid it's going to have to be a 'no' from me, David."
"Yes, I must say I wasn't convinced at all."
"Have you tried the Bullingdon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullingdon_Club)?"

The best/worst part of scandals of this sort is that to deny them you have to talk about them, which is most of the point anyway. You can't say "The Prime Minister did not fuck a pig", because people talking about the Prime Minister fucking a pig is exactly the problem you're trying to solve. So you have to aim tangentially and talk about how the Prime Minister was not associated with those people or whatever.

And of course it doesn't work, because whatever you do you're still talking about pig fucking implicitly, but it's marginally preferable to any utterance of the word "pig".

It's the same thing with the "will not dignify that with a response" official comment. Because, of course, that is a response; even admitting it's the sort of thing that merits a not-a-response marks as it as A Thing You Are Addressing. It's better than actually coming out and saying "I did not have sexual relations with that pig", of course, but what you really want is for this not to be a thing you have to talk about.

I think he should come out and do a press conference - not addressing it at all but wearing a kermit the frog tie.
