Best/Worst Editorials
« on: January 09, 2012, 01:40:45 pm »
Obviously, we have threads dedicated to what politicians think, as well as threads for what people who follow politicians think, but no threads dedicated to what the little guys of the world think.  Fortunately, the little guys occasionally like to opine to their local newspapers.  Even more fortunately, occasionally these random strings of words are awesomely insightful, or, more commonly, hilariously stupid.  Such as this one, for example, posted in The Toledo Blade on January 7, 2012.

Quote
We Need to go Beyond Mediocrity

In his Dec. 30 op-ed column, "GOP targets the basic model of American government," E.J. Dionne, Jr., quoted President Obama as saying: "This is not just another political debate.  This is a make or break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class."  In this simple statement, President Obama revealed his socialist ideology with striking clarity.  He is telling this nation that we are to settle for the middle or, to use another word, mediocrity.
We need to ask our chief executive:  Are we no longer to strive for greatness?  Are we no longer to have a country that allows us to exercise our "inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," unless that happiness is mediocrity?  Are we to allow ourselves to let the federal government, which has already told us when we are in poverty by setting an economic definition, now tell us when we have reached happiness?  Are we not to work toward improving our skills and abilities?
I do not believe the Founders of this country meant it to be a place dedicated to the middle.  If they wanted that, they could have remained a colony and subjects of a monarchy.  They wanted the citizens of this great land to have the opportunity to be and do the best.  We should not allow anybody to herd us into the middle.

Name withheld, of course, to protect the witless.  So, that'll be an economic ignorance with a large jumping to conclusions, and a side of irrational fear, did you want anything to drink with that?

Seemed like this would be the best forum to put this, as most of the editorials worth mentioning would be political in nature.  Would anyone else like to share?
Then again, I could be wrong.

This would have to be my favorite editorial ever.

COLUMN — American workers got what they deserved

Are you an American employee? If so, today’s column will likely offend you. If you’d rather not be offended, read no further. If you continue and then complain, I’m sorry, but that simply proves you’re, well, stupid. But then again, stupidity plays a large role in today’s topic.

Still reading? OK. You’ve had fair warning.

So you’re an American employee. Maybe you make car parts. Maybe you’re an engineer or designer. Maybe you’re an accountant, store clerk or tradesman. Whatever you do, you’re probably stupid or lazy. Yes, I wrote it, and I mean it. You are either stupid or lazy. Maybe both.

Meh. The lede isn't great.

I do love that the first comment is from Tom Friedman, though.

The party's name is the Democratic Party. It has been since 1830. Please spell correctly.

"The party must go wholly one way or wholly the other. It cannot face in both directions at the same time."
