Benefits of reduced fat milk overstated

Basically reduced fat milk has to add in extra sugars to make it palatable to most dairy consumers. Whole milk, at only four percent milk fat, doesn't.

...We don't put any sugar into reduced fat milk in Finland.

Fat free milk does taste "bad" to me but it is an acquired taste and people who want to drink their milk without fat just get used to it. Like you said, putting extra sugar into it does kinda defeat the purpose. Or atleast add another unnecessary ingredient into it.

Also, whole milk is 3,5% fat here.

I've no idea if we add sugar to skimmed and semi-skimmed milk in the UK or not, but I switched to skimmed milk a few years ago when I was trying to lose weight for no other reason than to reduce my calory intake, as it does have considerably fewer calories than full milk.

And you get used to the taste after a while.  At first though it might as well be bull semen.

I looked at the milk we have in the store.

12g sugar in 0%, 1%, and 2% milk.  I don't remember seeing whole milk there, but I had to get out of the way so people could actually buy milk.

I have whole milk in the fridge. 11g.

I think a big problem would be people buying it for their kids. The extra fat helps with brain development.

I don't think the kids in the USA need help with extra fat, considering what you find in fast food.

There is a difference between healthy fats and what's in fast food.  :P

my parents used to drink skim milk and buy 2 percent for me and my brother to drink.

I currently prefer to drink 1 percent milk. And I find whole milk to be distastefully oily being used to the reduced fat milk.

Oh man... real whole milk is something else.   It tastes so good to me.   I can only get it around here from the Mennonite farming community in Delano TN, not too far from where I live.  It has to be labeled that it's not for human consumption since it's not pasteurized.  Pretty much from the cow's tit to the jug.

Even better is goat's milk, but I haven't had that in ages.

Yee haaaw.

Think we called that green top in the UK, the rules on selling it were fairly strict, had to be sold by the farmer on the same morning it was milked. Apparently was good for making homemade cottage cheese from.

I'm in suburbia but still get milk delivered in glass bottles by milk float. Skimmed milk will always taste horribly watery to me.

That still happens?  I literally don't remember the last time I saw a milkman.
