Post by: Hades on January 04, 2012, 02:44:13 am
This is better than the old New Art thread, it's the NEW New Art Thread.

Post your artings, no matter the genre or medium.

I was gonna say looks like a bisexual pride flag but it's missing a color.

Nice nonetheless.

I recently got back into drawing (yay for meds!), and also started messing some with vector graphics.

Here is a vector art I made for my gaming site (http://houserulegaming.com/smf/index.php): (http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z458/MadamOriet/HouseruleGamingIcon_100x94.png)
I admit it's really simple and cheesy, being a house, a scroll to depict rules, and them being on a die to represent gaming, to match the site's name and purpose.

My head has been trying to convince me now to make a webcomic, that would be a furry science-fantasy industrial-punk war between cats and dogs (with other animals in as other sides and such), and after sharing the idea with my housemates they all like it too. Before I start doing it I know I need to work a bit on my art, as well as get stuff planned, plotted out, otherwise prepared, and have a buffer. Still, I started doing some art for it, and I'm doing it in the style I did the popular yet infamous Ironbite/Skyfire picture.

I also drew some busts to use as images for an RPG campaign (which hasn't started yet) in a modified Star Trek universe. I'll just link to the folder they're in: Link (http://s1190.photobucket.com/albums/z458/MadamOriet/Star%20Trek/)

I drew this a little while back, did some recent edits and finally posted it. I occasionally have the urge to post it in response to some of the news stories here that are full of WTF-ery.  http://sleepyoneart.blogspot.com/2012/01/wtf.html (http://sleepyoneart.blogspot.com/2012/01/wtf.html)

LOL Sleepy, that's funny.

I did some vector work before but this is the only thing that I did with it so far. It's a logo that I designed for a fictional group of people, 5 males and 5 females who somehow got access to the entire Internet and other computer networks as well as government mainframes, etc through their minds. They were discovered by govt agents and kept in a secret facility and horribly treated. They get killed when one of them threatens to expose the whole operation but somehow ended up getting into the Internet itself after their deaths. They then called themselves the Council of the Internet.

This is their main logo, I was going for a UN type logo but also something that conveys the Internet

Then here is the logos using the filter Luce, one with the logo in white on black background and the other vice versa

And this is a wall paper that I made
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/blusq/Photoshop/COTIWall.jpg)

I know it's all the same thing and I have this logo on TIFF file format so that I can change the colors or whatever but logo making isn't really my forte and it took me forever to make this logo.

I've been doing a lot of coloring lately. This is one of my newer ones, but it's huge, so I'm just going to link to it, and not post it in here. ^^ No breaking formating. It's a contest entry. (http://akzeal.deviantart.com/#/d4npwlz) It took me three or so days, working on and off.

And then this one was really exciting to do. The line-art is by Guido (hey, that's his name...), who's a professional artist for IDW. The image is not official, of course, but it was still awesome. Also, my colors are bright. Very bright. It's a radioactive robot. He's glowing with radiation. ^^ Bright happens. Here's the link. (http://akzeal.deviantart.com/#/d4ol2jr) So, am very happy about that one. ^^

I was reading through the old dream thread, and I based this poster off of a dream that Sleepy had.

Quote
I had a dream last night that Palin was running for president. This enraged me, so I went around my school putting up posters with Palin's name crossed out and an explanation below that read, "There's already enough bigotry in this country. We don't need more." I tried to write it in rainbow colors, but somehow failed miserably. I also drew a dancing snowman beneath her name and told people that they should vote for Pojman instead, who is the author of one of my textbooks.

This poster should be put everywhere.

So I'm working on my webcomic, hoping to get the next page up in a day or two. In the scene I'm working on, the three popular girls are chatting in the foreground, but what they're actually saying isn't important. They're just blah, blah, blahing. Thing is, I'm having trouble coming up with inane chatter for them. Do you, my fellow forumites and creative folk, think it would be better to have word bubbles with "Blah blah blah," or to leave it blank? Or should I bite the bullet and compose some inane chit-chat?
Title: Re: The New New Art Thread.
Post by: Sleepy on February 18, 2012, 11:47:44 pm
If they're in the foreground, I'm having trouble picturing "Blah blah blah" there with them. Maybe you can sketch it real quick for a visual? That could help. I'd say yes if they were in the background, but I'm not sure in this case.

From what I've seen of other comics they just use squiggles and/or random shapes for idle chatter in the background.

I drew these while I was at Pine Rest because, well, I was bored as fuck at that place and decided to draw which I haven't done in five years because I haven't had the energy or drive to. So this is the first time in five years that I actually drew something. I might get back to instead of being on the computer all the time.

A while ago I started playing Need For Speed World, a free to play racing MMO. It lets you design the paint jobs of your cars by placing and manipulating vinyls to make a design and I didn't want to have the boring default paint job that everyone else had, so I set out to design my own. I found that I actually have quite a knack for it, and I'm quite proud of the cars I designed.

Here's my Firebird, I took a vinyl of a flame and meticulously chose the colors and placed a bunch of them in just the right places to create the effect I wanted, overall it took about 2 hours, including time I spent experimenting with different designs:

And here's my El Camino. I went with a playing card theme, I looked at a bunch of playing cards to get it as close to a playing card as I could. I'm not quite satisfied with the swirls on the side, but that's the best I can come up with with the vinyl options I have, but maybe I'll come up with something better in the future.

Please tell me what you think, critique is highly appreciated!

Vormir, that looks awesome. Kinda reminds me of a game I had called "Gearhead Garage" where you could pretty much do the same although it was kind of limited.

I think I like the playing card one the best.

One of my friends has been doing some very basic Photoshop stuff, putting pictures in pre-made frames and adding captions. Nothing wrong with that, but the other day, he said he was going to practice his skills a bit and try to make a career out of it. *sigh* It bugs me how people seem to think being a professional artist is so damn easy.

And what does an artist do when something ticks him off? Draws a snarky comic, of course!

I know I  can't be the only one ...
Ever get an idea for your art type that gets stuck in your head - and even though you couldn't think of many people who would want to buy it/use it/appreciate it - you just have to do it anyway...

Well here is mine...This IS a 'christmas' ornament I had to make when I found small detailed printable tardisi (tardeses?)
Please pardon the smudgy look on the glass in the middle -I have to photo shop out the glare from the camera flash (any suggestions on that would be helpful - already have paper taped over the flash)

This is on the bottom of the base if you turn the ornament over...

I never thought I would be rich and famous because of my art, but adults always told me I would be when I was a kid. I was cynical about that even as a wee lad.

Yeah, I never actually thought I'd get rich from it.

I think he meant it was like papercraft. I've seen a few papercraft tardisi, though not scaled down that small.

I decided to experiment with embossing foil and made some African themed designs. I am trying to figure out what glue to use to glue it to the poster board that I just got. I plan on hanging these in my dining room/art room.

I thought the proportions looked okay (heads might be a little large for the bodies but not bad) but the arm/wrist/hand holding the glass needs some sort of shading - I tried to put my own hand in that position and couldn't...

This is Cteno, who is some unusual variation of pony that no one's quite sure about (not even herself). She has a tumblr (http://ctenophorae.tumblr.com/), to which my art pales in comparison, but the character was too visually interesting not to try. And yes, it's only two hours work in MS Paint, but I am still kind of fond of my effort~

Well I recently got around to finally watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. Here are some drawings I did of Sachiel's(3rd angel) "mask". Since the mask has appeared on a couple of the angels(or a variation of it), and almost all in the remake, it's been considered the "emblem" of the angels. I made it in MS paint out of boredom, though I may incorperate it into something else later. I made three attempts at it and want to ask which one you guys think is best. Does anyone know how Sachiels name is actually pronounced?

Here's some reference picture's.

Also, can someone who knows how to edit GIFs help me by adding "What?" or "Wut?" to this GIF.

Well I have two separate things this time. We'll start with the Minecraft character skin I made.

Here's the image I used as reference.

I made it with the skin editor at minecraftskins.com. I wish I could have found a better way to do the face, but I'm working with an 8x8 pixel square. I think the rest turned out alright. Here's a link for those that want to download the skin, and you can get a better look at it: http://www.minecraftskins.com/skin/216140/sachiel/ (http://www.minecraftskins.com/skin/216140/sachiel/)

The next thing is some stuff I did in Mastercam, a 3D design program used a lot for CNC machining, which I'm taking a class on at vo-tech for the second half of the school day. I'm amazed at times that they trust a bunch of high school kids with $20,000+ machines.

All 8 designs laid out to be laser etched on to dog-tags.

Close up of the Sachiel mask with wings and the SEELE emblem.

Close up of random symbol #1 and Gearhead
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1569/screenshot32ni.png)

Close up of the Invisible Pink Unicorn logo and the other winged Sachiel mask.

Close up of Cthulhu and the plain Sachiel mask.

Generally if we're going to put a picture on to an something with a CNC mill or the laser we take an image off the internet, put it into Mastercam, which convert's it pretty badly most of the time, and then we have to manually put arcs and lines over the rough shape we have then delete the original vector image. That's what I did with the IPU emblem, SEELE emblem and the wings on the masks. I would have done the same to the Cthulhu image, but with school ending in two days and the image being as complex as it is, I wouldn't have time. So instead I left it the way in was because it looks fine once the original is shrunk down from 6in to a little under 1in to fit on the dog-tag. I added the arched lettering to the top as well.

The Gearhead was made taking this skull (http://www.wpclipart.com/signs_symbol/skull/skull_and_crossbones_large.png.html) and a stock image of a gear and fusing them together while editing out all the extra. The unknown symbol was made by combining bits and pieces from Mastercam's stock image library that where categorized as "tribal", like those tattoos douchebags get. I make it one day while bored and messing around and playing with any image available, this was a result that I thought was worth saving for future use. I don't have any idea as of yet for what I'll use it for so do you all have any ideas?

Finally the Sachiel masks were made entirely from scratch. I didn't trace it from the designs I posted earlier. I then experimented with adding "angel wings" to it. I have a version with "demon wings", but that one didn't make it on to here as I took these screen shots right as class was ending. I'll try to post it and any others I missed tomorrow. The boxes on the screen represent the fixture we put the tags in to make it easier to position a large amount correctly much easier. The boxes in the program were made by a classmate of mine. The plastic fixture itself, made on a 3D printer, was designed by another class mate.

I will probably be making the the tags tomorrow, so I'll try to post pic's of the results.

I would love comments, suggestions, or criticisms on both the Minecraft skin and the Mastercam designs. Any way I could make it better? Any ideas for future projects?(though Mastercam ideas will have to wait until the start of the next school year before I can start on them)

Here's the pictures of the finished tags I mentioned yesterday. They're all etched on two different colored tags, and the design is on both sides of each tag. They're made by burning the paint off with a powerful laser(running a fraction of its full power).

(Sorry in advance for the big pictures)

I apologize for the necro, but since this is the sole thread for submitting your art/drawings, there is some justifications to that.

I don't draw as often as I want to, but I whipped these two sketches on MS Paint last night when I was bored.

Some mediocre attempts at fan art for the interactive comic Ruby Quest. I am terrible at drawing poses and muzzles for anthropomorphic beings. I then gave up because I thought these look like shit.

Another sketch. This time it's fan art of Monster World IV (If you haven't played any game in the Wonder Boy/Monster World series, the entire series is on the Virtual Console). I'm trying to fix this sketch up since I'm still not pleased with how she (Asha, the protagonist of that game and the girl in my avatar) looks. If there are things I'm also terrible at, it would be female faces, especially semi-realistic.

(Yes, if I do ever finish this, there will be proper line art and I will crop any unused space.)

Constructive critique is very welcome, because I don't want my stuff to look bad.

I got something special for you guys. I saw rage comics though I could do better with their layout and mimetic facial expressions. So I took high quality pictures, fired up Photoshop and the end result was:

Link because it has to be rescaled (http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8/maplebacondonutdogffffu.jpg)

Permission and thanks for some inspiration (aka making that hot dog) goes the evil genius (complete with mustache) of Bacon Dog at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds.

Yes, that hotdog actually exists:

While working on something else, I got bit by the sprite bug. Haven't done any spriting in forever, so I made this. Generic old style RPG with bacon. I call it BaconQuest.

Twin leoren brother and sister Tsaenoa (left) and Theome (right).

I made up these characters years ago so that I'd have some original characters to do art trades with. They're not exactly fursonas, but they do represent aspects of myself. Tsaenoa is curiosity, optimism, and romanticism, but also cowardice, and occasional courage. Theome is creativity, art, love of comfort, and love of learning, but also depression.

Good drawing, John.

I have a twisted mind. The first thing that popped in to my head when seeing the drawing is that Santa's sack is full of dead animals. The deer looks like it's wondering what's in the sack, the rabbit clearly knows and is making a break for it, and the coon is like, "fuck it, I'm dinner."

Long story short, its called Keep of Metal and Gold, and it aims to be a steampunk themed (with LOTS of inspiration from Thief) mod with a nice, Victorian feel to it, especially for decorative blocks/items.  I want somethin nice, which is why I'm coming to...well, everyone but me, lol.  I'm shite at CAD, and a mod ain't a mod without a cool logo!

Love the stitching and the pixel art. It kinda reminds me of old-school RPGs in a good way.

Anyway, I made this rhyming thing just a few moments ago, dunno if it fits here but screw it. I think I'll call it "Actually, It's About Ethics in Nihilism". I'm bad at names.

this void has no answers but those made by man, if nothing has meaning then anything can. this rock doesn't care how we dream, how we feel, so we think and we feel and define what is real. the world is the people, its gods me and you, no reason to care, no reason not to. the stone it is set in's a moon with its phases, and you may not like me but I may not care and fuck it I can't be arsed to rhyme anymore.
