The Brooklyn-born musician known to fans as MCA was first treated for cancerous growths in his parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009 and subsequently underwent surgery and radiation therapy, which forced the delay of the Beastie Boys’ most recent album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. His illness has also kept the group off the road, and Yauch missed the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two weeks ago.

Bit of an unfortunate day for the music world. I haven't really listened to Beastie Boys since high school, but they were always entertaining, if only because they never seem(ed) to take themselves all that seriously.

There are a number of ways, though my favourite is simply to take them by surprise. They're just walking down the street, minding their own business when suddenly, WHACK! Penis to the face.

Does this mean that the Beastie Boys are no more? Will Hot Sauce Committee part II be their last album?

I can't imagine them continuing without one of their members. I just doesn't seem right.

I was really surprised to hear about this. I had no idea he was fighting cancer. R.I.P. MCA

Yeah, me neither.  He was only 47!  That's way too young to die.

Ditto this, now I will post my all time favorite Beastie Boys song in his honor. RIP MCA

Not trying to score extra hits on this thread, but Coldplay did a really cool impromptu tribute at the Hollywood Bowl last night. I'm not a Coldplay fan, but it's a very fitting tribute.
