You misunderstand me. I was saying that the belief expressed in the OP is brought upon by the saying 'the sins of the father shall be visited upon the sons a thousand times' in context of the post above me.
Even tho the 'sins of the father' isn't exactly supposed to be used to cause a child to be deformed or disabled in any fashion. In fact "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin," amongst others that clearly 'retcon' the Sins of the Father quote.
Considering what I said earlier about how the saying has been used against me... oh well.
For an extra bonus here's the actual passage from which 'sins of the father' draws from: "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me"
