Oh man, so great officers are being held accountable for their actions now! Everything's getting better and we should all calm down!

Non-sarcastic: Not surprising, he were set to get off from the start, all the promise of a trial did was quell "unruly elements".

Just for future reference, blue text represents sarcasm.

But back on topic.  I'm appalled, but I can't say I'm surprised.

I'm happy my fellow citizens took the news so well.

I hope the cop burns alive.

Every day I see news like this its a little more difficult to look at cops and not see sneering snobs who take joy in being American Nobility.

He's not the only bad cop to get off today.

Excuse me, sir, do you have a minute to talk about your lord and savior, Hannibal Barca?

Yeah, if the pagans are so smart, why did Jesus invade Pagan-land on the back of a dragon and kill them all!

Actually, Niam, cops would probably be closer to knights or samurai than actual nobles; they act as the arm of the nobility, ready to crush any and all dissent using a mixture of threats, lies, character assassination, terror tactics, and old fashioned straight-up murder.  Remember, nobility does next to no actual work, most of the time.  The 5-0 works, just not for us.

If we actually tried rehabilitating non-violent offenders, we'd eliminate a tonne of problems.  I forget which it is, but I think its either Sweden or Norway that gave all but the worst offenders actual chances to re-enter society after humane incarceration and their crime rates have been going down steadily ever since.  Again, the Vikings' descendants prove they know what they're doing.

"well Olaf, if we can't kill 'em or lock them up until they die I guess we have to do something with them..."

Seriously, you either give somebody a real second chance, or you just don't give them a second chance. Wasting time, effort, and causing unnecessary harm to innocents by setting people up to fail is just stupid and harmful to society. America is still coming to grips with the idea that you can't just kill them all and still has a long way to go before it has a real first world justice system.

That came out a bit snarkier than I intended... not snarky enough to make me change it though.

As it is, America basically lets its modern samurai decide what's legal on the street on a moment by moment basis.

Not to mention weapons far more effective than a katana, despite what Final Fantasy seems to think.
