A journalist decided to visit a legal brothel in Nevada to see what it was like, and his first-hand account is amazing. He describes it as similar to any other business, with safety measures like weekly doctor visits for every girl, a screening for customers to ensure they don't have any obvious problems, and a strict requirement for condom usage. Girls aren't there against their will. There's a link in the article to the application you must fill out to apply for a position there. Additionally, Nevada has regulations that prevent any old schmuck from entering the prostitution business and potentially harming his employees. In short, it's the complete opposite of the illegal prostitution we see everywhere else, and is definitely something that needs to be addressed in the US and elsewhere.

This is what I think of when I talk about legalizing prostitution.  Safe, legal, and sensibly regulated, as it damn well should be.

If we had a legal prostitution business in the US, think of how much money we'd get in revenue?  But we're still "morally" correct and think sex is so taboo that it must never ever ever be talked about and yet...

I am all for legal prostitution for all sexes and genders. I am of the opinion that it will counter a number of very stupid, very dysfunctional sexual standards set by society. “A man is not a virgin” anyone?

To be honest folks, people need practice for sex. There are still too many negative views of masturbation. My knowledge is lacking in how this effects the sexual health of women . The impact upon the sexual health of men is more studied. Masturbation becomes something to be done quickly in secret. This effectively trains a male person to last one minute at most. This is a problem, sex is to be pleasurable for both partners.

It can probably curtail some but not all. Keep in mind that human trafficking can still target markets interested in illegal activities, such as pedophiles and similar things.

As much as I like the idea of legalizing brothels, I would also like to point out that it's not as simple as just legalizing it. When you legalize something like that, you also need to put into place guidelines for a system that's never really existed before up until that point.

I'm not against legalization, I'm actually for it. I just don't think that it will end the majority of prostitution-related crime.
