Biggest Christian church split in a millenia
« on: October 16, 2018, 12:08:24 am »
https://www.politico.eu/article/russian-orthodox-church-breaks-with-constantinople/?fbclid=IwAR0RkdLt6Byj4qMKS6aTTho1Dwp16io7pbesiGDOp0KJVxYZnmuK938g4kI

The Russian Orthodox Church split off from the rest of the Orthodox Church  (It's a 50/50 split.)

This because previously Russian Church had excommunicated Ukrainians and Constantinople  (the head of all Orthodox faith before this split) had in turn given the Ukrainkan church the right to split off from the Russian one.

It's all political and because of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Still a major development.

The Christian split I'm waiting for is the one where every Catholic suddenly becomes unaffiliated because the Church has been prosecuted for its two thousand years of crimes against humanity and dissolved, its assets distributed to everyone it has wronged.

It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Quote from: Supreme Court of Canada
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.

I believe Crusader Kings 2 said it best. "Ha! The fools fight amongst themselves."

Bigger than the Protestant Reformation of the 15th-17th centuries?

Good point. I really should have remembered that one, especially as I'm a member of a Lutheran Church, as in a branch named after Marin Luther who caused that split.

tbf millenia may not be literally accurate but it certainly seems like several centuries ago was that long comparative to more modern events.
