Racist Snack Cakes?

Saputo asked 123klan to re-brand Jos Louis, a classic Canadian snack cake, in order to make it more appealing to young kids. We went beyond redesigning the box and created an entire family of puppet characters who represented the brand in the community. Our main character, Jay, created his own blog where he would talk about the parties, events, locations, and restaurants, basically anything cool that was going on in the city. To promote the blog, we created limited-edition stickers that came inside the box, bringing back that childhood excitement of finding the toy inside the cereal box.

Apperantly that company isn't very good with package design.

It's certainly ugly and in poor taste, but I'm not completely sure it's "racist".

I don't really see it as racist either. To me it's no different than when they put white skateboarding/surfing kids on shit in the 90s. They're an out of touch company trying to market what they think is cool.

Yeah, it's just a case of "Totally Radical", nothing more.

Yeah, it's just a case of "Totally Radical", nothing more.

Once upon a boardroom cheery, an executive pondered a query
How could we take these snack cakes and sell some more?
While he noodled, his head he was slapping, but suddenly came a tapping
As if some gnarly bro annoyingly rapping, rapping at the boardroom door
"Tis some sk8 rat," he muttered, "tapping at my boardroom door -
Totally radical, nothing more."

I don't even know how to reward you for something that fucking awesome. Like, I'll put out all the fires Jazzy starts on you.

Not racist per se, but ridiculous and riddled with unfortunate implications all the same.

When I see people throwing gangster signs at me, the first thing I think is totally "riche et crémeux chocolatée goodness" as my mouth waters in anticipation.

Oh, Quebec, how I miss you. Never change.

Not seeing it.

Cmon, snack producers, if you wanna be racist, make Swasticookies, Iron Cross Croissants, Cakes with Hitler and Eva Braun on it and with figurines of their SS bodyguards on it, a packed lunch that advertises itself as "essential nutrients and vitamins for any Hitler Youth on the march", et cetera.

I doubt if it was intended to be racist.  The package design suggests that they don't have the vaguest idea of what they're doing.

I don't really get a racial slant either.
However those snacks look delicious.

I guess it was just the 'chocolate = black person' thing that made me see it as racial.  Brown cake, brown package, brown skater dude.  (And the term 'gangstars'. Seriously?)
Maybe I've been made overly sensitive by the SJ crowd.
