A black pope. That would be quite a thing.
Well, it would make RSTDT busy for sure.
Yeah, calling it right now. If they elect a pope darker than khaki I'm axing RSTDT immediately. I can't deal with that shit anymore.

Yeah, but we can have fun watching RR explode. ;D

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, ratty. Maybe if we're super lucky the next guy won't be someone who coddles rapists.

Apparently the Pope has said what he wants for breakfast the day after he leaves his office.

He wants Ex-Bennedict.

"Pope Benedict said in a historic announcement he no longer had the mental and physical strength to run the Roman Catholic Church and would become the first pontiff in more than 700 years to resign, leaving his inner circle "incredulous"."

I'll just bet, Benny.

Now you're just being imPopesible.

Back on topic, isn't their a prophecy somewhere that says after this Pope (or maybe the next one), the devil is supposed to take over the church under the guise of another John Paul II or something like that?

I'll just have to see Vatican see about this.  But I have a feeling it will Peter out fairly quickly.  One hopes we'll see a pope with a more Urban outlook, but they're going to look for that old Pius attitude.  After all, they wouldn't want to have a loose canon on their hands, a papal bull in a china shop.  It would violate the Cardinal values of the Catholic Church.

Posted this in the other thread about the Pope resigning:

Good riddance, and I still hope they arrest him over that trivial issue of covering up the systemic rape of children worldwide.

I think you may be correct. Then he will travel down to Georgia looking for a soul to steal. So sayeth the Book of Daniels.

EDIT: Excellent mocking here.

That's somebody's bizarre interpretation of St. Malachy's Prophecy of the Popes.

The original states the characteristics of 112 future popes, ending with a statement on the last Pope, "Peter the Roman," who would reign during a time of great persecution of the Church. His reign would end with the destruction of Rome and possibly the Last Judgment, stated thus:

"In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit
Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations:
and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed,
and the terrible judge will judge his people.
The End."
Benedict XVI was the 111th pope, so Peter the Roman is supposed to be the next.

And thus we have another Doomsday Prophecy to deal with. I was hoping for a reprieve after the 2012 nonsense, but no...

Well, considering the growing unpopularity of the church, it's easy to see how fundies would view the next Pope as reigning during a time of persecution, what with the increasing prevalence of questioning church policy and practices.  I doubt the church will literally be destroyed by the end of the next Pope's reign, though fundies might go the metaphorical route if the church loses much of its relevance and political clout by the next Pope's end.
