I think the problem is the same one most churches with this incident have; the people in charge aren't taking responsibility and holding the guy responsible.  They're just saying, "oops, he made a mistake, no big deal," as if he had mispelled 'cult' on a sign.

Also, I sincerely doubt it was a case of, "Oh hello little girl, oops what happened to my pants?"  The guy knew what he was doing, and now he's just using the church to hide out.

They want to keep kids away from the church?  Whatever, but the way they're trying to brush this under the carpet is disgusting, and I hope the church eventually suffers for it.

I just hope no more children suffer from it.

Well, no children are about to be left with him, are they? Like I said, the solution seems ass about, but at least no kids are going to be put in harms way.

I foresee this church committing financial suicide due to no new members and all of the old members dying out.

^This.

While I'm all for whatever results in less children being in church, I'm not sure I'm too keen on this guy getting preference over them. I get that he's a pastor by trade, but the church - if they were willing to take him back - should have had him fill a position where his exposure to children was non-existent...not given the kids the boot so he can retain his seat at the pulpit.

Then again, I'm somewhat amused that anyone is aghast that the church doesn't seem to have it's priorities in order. At this point, I'd be amazed if they could bring themselves to do the right thing.

I'd understand the "oops, he made a mistake" argument if he was one of the people on the sex offender registry who don't need to be on there: a sixteen year old guy who slept with his fifteen year old girlfriend, for example, in a state without Romeo and Juliet laws. Those kinds of people, yeah, I can understand making allowances for them.

But that's not what this is. This is an actual child molester. And they're bending the rules around him instead of putting the children first.

What I don't see is people realizing that the people he's allowed to 'teach' are adults with children. Pastors visit the homes of their flock (at least a lot of them do).

Now, I'm a little high but what is stopping him from weaseling around the rules that he can only be around the adults of the congregation while at church? The church is just patting him on the head and saying 'It's okay, we forgive you. You made a mistake'.

I do not sympathize with the little cretin. I sympathize with the children he molested and he's getting away with it and being given more chances to do as such. While I'm not saying he's going to do it again or that he should be locked away, he should be prevented from being able to be given a chance to do it again. Rehabilitation can only do so much, sometimes.

And if you buy that, I have a bridge to sell you. Leads to Terabithia. He's going to re-offend eventually. If I were a praying man, I'd ask god to watch over the children and at least help them recover. Except I'm not, and he doesn't do that sort of thing. He's far too busy watching over sports games.

Pretty much this. Churches only focus so much on children to increase their flock.

How so? They're keeping children away from him, isn't that what you'd want to see?

He very possibly will reoffend, sure, but it won't be in his capacity as a church person, will it? No one can control what he does in his free time, but the church has taken steps to keep kids away from him, in his official capacity, and its priests and pastors using their official capacity to access children that is usuallly the problem with this sort of thing, right?
