Happy Earth Day!
« on: April 22, 2012, 01:47:57 pm »
I gotta be honest, I don't really care. Setting aside 1 out of 365 days to pretend to care about the planet is, to be perfectly honest, lazy and completely stupid. It's not going to change anything, especially if the majority of participants (do people even do shit for Earth Day anymore?) go back to business as usual the next day. It's just another shallow, feel-good day where we can pretend we're making a change for the better without actually inconveniencing ourselves.

BUT, it is a great excuse to watch this classic Carlin video:

Her3tik, you have groupies.
Ego: +5

There are a number of ways, though my favourite is simply to take them by surprise. They're just walking down the street, minding their own business when suddenly, WHACK! Penis to the face.

It's also a great excuse to feel like you accomplished shit.

In WA we have commercials for an insurance company called Pemco. The commercials center around certain "types" of Washingtonians (they are all unabashed stereotypes, and hilariously accurate). Earth Day reminds me of the Relentless Recycler:

It was originally called the Obsessive-Compulsive Recycler, but I think they changed it to avoid potentially offending people with OCD.

By the way, my dad is a total Sandals & Socks Guy. Yes, honest to god we wear sandals and socks together here. When I went to the Northeast to visit relatives, my mom stopped my dad and I from wearing sandals and socks to a family party so that she wouldn't die of embarrassment.

Yeah, we need a lot more than one day...

I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

The way I see it, as long as all of our energy comes from fossil fuels, there's nothing we can do.
