I don't have it in my hands yet, but I now have permission to show off the pictures of the sword I designed:
The original design:

I want it. Seriously, I want that sword in my hands.
-
That is certainly some sword. Are you planning on giving it an overly symbolic name?
-
That is a gorgeous sword! I'd love to have one like it displayed on a wall were I can pick it up and play with it.

I've been referring to it as The Royal Saber, because of the crown-shaped pommel.
-
Shiny.
-
Where are you getting it from and do they take commissions and for how much because iv been meaning to get a sword for a Commissar costume iv been working on.
-
Not a bad blade at all... battle-worthy, or is it a show piece?
For those of us sword-users that want something you could use in a fight, www.badgerblades.com is the way to go.
-
The hilt/pommel seems to be a little different from original sketches but not bad at all.
How's it weighted and everything?
@Priestling- I will have you know Mister that I now have the Badger Mushroom Snake song stuck in my head. So thank you.
Badger, badger, badger, badger, mushroom, mushroom. Swooooooooord. It's a swoooooooord.
-
@Shane: You're welcome :3
-
JOHN! That is amazing. I'm so psyched for you.

It's from Darksword Armory (http://www.darksword-armory.com/). They're based in Canada, they do great work, and I think they take commissions for custom pieces. Their in-stock swords are usually in the $250-400 range. Customs are probably more, but I don't know how much more.

Definitely battle-worthy. Darksword Armory is known for very tough, durable swords.
I don't know all the specs yet, but it's 46.5 inches overall.
-
Any chance you could post a picture of yourself holding it when you get it? I figure it'll give me at least a better sense of its size.

It's pretty much a given I'm gonna be posting pictures of me and my baby.

Every time I see this topic come up, I keep thinking John whipped it out or something...
-
Sorry to disappoint. ;)
-
Oooo, that's beautiful.
-
Very nice JohnE!

If it were NSFW that would be a reasonable assumption.

I like that it has a vaguely middle eastern style in the curve of the blade but overall looks quite western. Beautiful lines on it.

Thanks. As I understand it, blades with that sort of shape were actually used in Europe before the middle east. They go back to the viking age (in more primitive forms).

I don't know much about the evolution of sword shapes, so I wouldn't be surprised that things associated with one area really have nothing to do with it. The shape just brings to mind a scimitar, but only very slightly.
-
I see it as more of a falchion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falchion) in some respects.
-
I originally envisioned it a little thinner and more saber-like, but it came out a little fatter and more falchion-like. Not that I'm complaining.
-
That is badass! Love the design on the end of the hilt.
-
My sword's up on their website. (http://www.darksword-armory.com/products-page/medievalswords3/1353-ring-hilt-swiss-saber/)

Niiiiice!

I hate you! I hate you for showing me something completely fucking awesome that I want and could even sorta afford but could never justify spending the money on! I could have a custom oriental blade made T_T and it's live-blade too. YOU'RE A CRUEL MAN JOHNE!
In all seriousness, that blade is beautiful man, be proud.

And I'm getting one for free! Mwa-ha-ha-ha!

You, Sahr, can go straight to hell.
-
John your sword is amazing, just the right amount of detail. Could there be weapon design in your future? I think that would be an awesome calling, especially after viewing your past sword art and now seeing this finished blade.
-
That's a nice looking sword, JohnE. I like the clipped point on the blade for more effective stabbing. Can't wait to see pics of you wielding it.
-
I can't wait to wield it!
Saw a UPS truck on my street and got excited, but alas, no sword yet.

The world demands action poses!

You should be smiling more.

You should be smiling more.
He won't smile untill the blade has quenched its' thirst for the blood of his enemies.
-
Really sharp!
Sorry.
-
That's a huge motherfucking sword.
I want one.
-
This is as close as I can get to action shots for the time being, practicing my guards. Enjoy. ;D

Still not smiling. I am disappoint.
-
It's hard to look like a bad-ass while smiling.
-
We will not be satisfied until there are photos of you gleefully demonstrating your sword prowess on zombie hordes.
-
It's hard to look like a bad-ass while smiling.
No?
kind of smiling. Big+a bit of a bulge that may be inappropriate in this part of the forum (http://www.pariscine.com/sites/default/files/posters/spartacus_gods_of_the_arena__s1_6.jpg)
Again, badass+smile. Big picture tho (http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/spartacus-gota4.jpg)
then you can of course go with the crazy 'look out i have a sword and not afraid to use it' smile. :D
I just think one should look thrilled with their new weapon. ;)
