The BRIC group (Brazil*, Russia, India, China) is not an alliance. The countries have nothing to do with each other. They do not share interests. They do not even share a continent.

They share a number of economic interests and have a lot of trade deals with each other, as they are all in roughly the same boat economically speaking. While they are not a definitive alliance, they would all profit or suffer economic loss to the same things happening on a global scale. Hence it would be in each of their best interests to support each other, until one tries to sneak ahead of the others.

Each of the BRIC nations have labor markets resource shortages and far too many people living in their countries. They have every reason to start expansionist plans. They could ally together to expand into Africa if they wanted to, however they will in time turn on each other.

Alternatively I could see a massive invasion from China into Africa. In this event I doubt the USA would want to get involved, nor would the UN want to, but I could see it coming to that. I am not sure if the rest of the BRIC nations would back china in this.
Wow, now that would be a fucking bloodbath that would put WWI to shame. China's massive numbers and those lovely African millitias, what fun they'd have.

Was hoping this thread would be about decades-old predictions of Future Wars.  So far, I am disappointed  >:(

World war would be nuclear, and nuclear war means no allegiances.

Why not? I think it would be nice to know that there are allied countries that won't be nuking you. You could concentrate on the others.

I mean, all out nuclear war is insane no matter how you do it, but having some friendly countries is always good, even better if you share a border with them.

If you nuke a country that shares a border with you then the chances of fallout causing trouble in your country is much bigger. In fact nukes only seem like a good choice if you plan to use them far away.

This is probably why USA and USSR could keep on dreaming about nuking each other.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:

Nup. Russia and China hate each other. India and China hate each other. Brazil is the only country relatively non-belligerent towards the others (Russia and India don't hate each other, either).

Note that three of them are nuclear powers.

They're not even all united in brinkmanship towards the US. Brazil and India are US allies; China has a history of friendship and cooperation with the US (aligned against Vietnam and the Soviet Union). Russia, obviously, does not.

Which is the same argument people used to prove World War One impossible.

The reason there will never be a major conflict again is mutually assured destruction. It serves no country's interests to go to war, therefore none will.

Well until we are fighting for oil, water and/or food that will be the case.  Make it about those and throw in some massive economic and political turmoil and and reasonable bets are off.
