According to the new laws, revealing or receiving confidential Vatican information is now punishable by up to two years in prison, while newly defined sex crimes against children carry a sentence of up to twelve years. Because all sex crimes are kept confidential, there is no longer a legal way for Vatican officials to report sex crimes.

And of course, there's this gem:

Actually... Who can they sentence to jail? Do those punishments only concern if it actually happened in the Vatican or something? I mean I'm pretty sure that if a catholic priest is discovered to be a pedophile in, let's say France, it will be the local police who handle the criminal investigation and the legal system of the country who handle the sentencing, not the RCC.

Yeah, I'd like to see what amounts to a city-state going to war with, oh say...the US military.  Hell, any country in Europe, even Switzerland, could kick their asses back into the Stone Age.  Though, that's not that far of a kick, they haven't yet left the Bronze Age.

I think Luxemburg and some other smaller countries could be in a trouble when facing off against the Swiss guard.

But there are other forms of diplomacy (And I don't think that Vatican or when it comes to that any country would use war as a first reaction to a diplomatic problem.)
Still, it is kinda hard for them to enforce this law abroad. I think that one of the south american countries with high catholic population might be swayed when pressured by the pope, but even then it is unlikely.

Yes, it's totally unjustified to be pissed off at religious institution for continuing to shelter paedophiles while pretending they are the all-new, all-better, "We really mean it this time guys, look, we got this new Pope who's really good at empty gestures now!" Church. This is the largest religious institution in the world; there's a billion people who, to a greater or lesser degree, think that they speak for the creator of the universe.

Anti-Catholic fundamentalism is hating on the individuals because of what the leaders do. Anti Catholic fundamentalism is claiming the Church is corrupt because it's not your precise flavour of evangelical protestant whatever-the-fuck.
