Ugh. Bronies can be just as bad as Twitards.
I was thinking they're as bad as weeaboos, but come to think of it, your comparison is better.

Comparing fans of My Little Pony to people with a shallow and cartoon-based view/worship of another culture or tweens who are ignorantly devoted (to the point of denigrating any other successful book or anything involving vampires and/or werewolves) to Mormon-housewife-fantasy abstinence porn is a tad disingenuous.

I think most Bronies would recognize that the show is geared at kids and has quite a few chessy or childish elements, but they happen to feel that the show is still entertaining because the creators intended it to be that way. How is it that much different from adult fans of Adventure Time? Or Young Justice? Or G.I. Joe: Renegades? Or Transformers Animated? Or any other children's show that is written in such a way to foster and capture a periphery demographic?

It's that all three groups tend to broadcast their hard-on for their preferred fandom at every opportunity, especially online. Just look at how many threads here have been derailed with pony talk/macroes.

I don't have anything against My Little Pony itself or necessarily its fans. It's the ones that never shut up about it that piss me off.

Admittedly, I just kinda bomb around in P&G and F&B, but the count of every thread I've seen derailed by ponies on this message board is...this one.  TV Tropes has HUGE MLP section and Memebase has a subsite, but I guess I don't hang around the right parts of the web.

And is it really any worse than threads being derailed with sexual innuendos and bizarrely obscene jokes?

Fair enough. Comparing it to fandoms who are legitimately terrible still seems unfair. So far as I know, no Bronie has ever tried to claim MLP invented unicorns or that it is better than....a Pixar movie (what would be the animation equivalent of the Harry Potter franchise?).

I don't mind it if it has its own section or subsite, it's when it constantly finds its way to non-pony related threads that's the problem. To illustrate my problem, take the fact that I'm a massive gamer and I think it's the greatest, most fun passtime ever since jerking off. However, I keep all of my gaming talk to the related or nonsense threads and I don't actively derail unrelated threads with gaming talk because I know that there exist people who don't give a shit and don't want to hear about it. If the pony fans would behave it a similar manner, I'd have no beef with them.
And is it really any worse than threads being derailed with sexual innuendos and bizarrely obscene jokes?
Yeah, come to think of it, objectively it's true. I'll happily admit that the only reason that I don't have a problem with the innuendo derails is because they amuse me.

I wouldn't say so. I have the same issue with all of those fandoms, namely the loud and obnoxious fans who think everyone else shares their hard-on for their preferred form of entertainment and thus want to hear them stroke off to it at every opportunity. The fandoms themselves are completely benign as long as you bear in mind that they're purely fictional (yes, even Twilight), it's solely annoying fans that are the problem. I'd say this analysis is apt for not only Twitards and weeaboos, but also certain Pony fans.

I try to only post ponies in a way appropriate for the thread, not intending to derail it. Considering the fact that a lot of threads here induce RAGE and general disappointment in humanity, ponies seem like a good way of cheering everyone up a bit, so we don't go insane with RAGE.  The derailment of this thread is unintentional and I think the first time I've ever derailed a thread anywhere. I was trying to convey that the money used on this think would have been put to better use on just about anything else, including ponies that spread friendship.

I'll remember to dial back the brony-ness in the future.( but the avatar stays)

EDIT: By the way, I was on a site a while back that documented all the assaults on non-twilight fans. It is probably out there if your interested. One included a 16 year old girl stomping on a 6 year old's goldfish, because the 6 year old didn't think Twilight was the greatest thing ever. Twilight has caused (non-human) deaths! I also heard Twilight has it's own religion now, though if they are serious or not is questionable. The closest to pony worship I would go is calling myself a member of the Order of the Invisible Pink Unicorn, which I did even before I was a brony and has no real connection. (Invisible Multi-coloured-but- primarily-teal Pegasus FTW, j/k)

History is full of maniacs, my friend, men and women of intelect, highly perceptive individuals, who's brilliant minds know neither restraint nor taboo. Such notions are the devils we must slay for the edification of pony-kind. Even if said edification means violating the rules of decency, society, and rightousness itself.

Cheers friend. Dialling back the brony-ness in unrelated threads is all I ask.

Somehow missed the edit.

Eh, there's assholes everywhere, and considering there are millions of Twitards in the world, statistically speaking shit like that is bound to happen. Increase the numbers of pony fans and I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a few in their ranks who exhibit such behaviour.

Also, wasn't the invisible pink unicorn thing around long before My Little Pony aired? Never mind, seen your new edit.

If this forum is like others I know of, there should be a way to split derailed threads at the point of derailment into another thread.  Seeing as how this has become terribly derailed, do you think that could be done to this thread?

Actually, MadCat, its funny you mention that, because I was at that site a little while back (about...3 months or so), and read they had a rule prohibiting such "Twihard Encounters" as many were either dubious or outright lies.

Now, that said, would I be surprised if the more insane ones weren't?  Unfortunately, no.  Not in the least.

I believe the sight I was on was called twilightsuck.com, is that the one you were on? One story was about a girl who got her leg broke for not liking twilight. She posted a lot of pictures of among other things said leg in a cast and I think some legal papers showing she was going to sue the person that broke her leg proving she was telling the truth.

Wow, that's harsh.

Also...did ponies really derail a thread for three pages? XD

VERMIN SUPREME 2012!!!

Yes I do sir! Free Pony’s for all Americans. One of the overlooked issues in American today. My free-pony platform is of course is a jobs creation program it will create lots and lots of jobs once we ah switch over to pony based economy, it will also lower our dependence on foreign oil, we will also be able to turn all that pony poop into methane gas, and wonderful compost and be able to re-up our soil that is being depleted by aero-chemicals etcetera. etcetera. etcetera. And of course the important thing to realize is, it is a Federal pony identification program where you will need your pony at all times. Thank you very much.

I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

Yes it would appear so. Should I reiterate my original derailing post about "PONY WORLD DOMINATION!". And yes, it does have to be written like that. I, for one, welcome our new pony overlords. ;D

We had enough material in that thread to make another, 3 page thread? This sickens me.

I think the violence in Twitards stems more from the general emotional immaturity & insanity of the fandom, but numbers does have something to do with it.

With regards to weeaboos, I think that comparison is made a bit too much, as-is.
