Comparing fans of My Little Pony to people with a shallow and cartoon-based view/worship of another culture or tweens who are ignorantly devoted (to the point of denigrating any other successful book or anything involving vampires and/or werewolves) to Mormon-housewife-fantasy abstinence porn is a tad disingenuous.
I think most Bronies would recognize that the show is geared at kids and has quite a few chessy or childish elements, but they happen to feel that the show is still entertaining because the creators intended it to be that way. How is it that much different from adult fans of Adventure Time? Or Young Justice? Or G.I. Joe: Renegades? Or Transformers Animated? Or any other children's show that is written in such a way to foster and capture a periphery demographic?
It's that all three groups tend to broadcast their hard-on for their preferred fandom at every opportunity, especially online. Just look at how many threads here have been derailed with pony talk/macroes.
I don't have anything against My Little Pony itself or necessarily its fans. It's the ones that never shut up about it that piss me off.
I try to only post ponies in a way appropriate for the thread, not intending to derail it. Considering the fact that a lot of threads here induce RAGE and general disappointment in humanity, ponies seem like a good way of cheering everyone up a bit, so we don't go insane with RAGE. The derailment of this thread is unintentional and I think the first time I've ever derailed a thread anywhere. I was trying to convey that the money used on this think would have been put to better use on just about
anything else, including ponies that spread friendship.
I'll remember to dial back the brony-ness in the future.( but the avatar stays)
EDIT: By the way, I was on a site a while back that documented all the assaults on non-twilight fans. It is probably out there if your interested. One included a 16 year old girl stomping on a 6 year old's goldfish, because the 6 year old didn't think Twilight was the greatest thing ever. Twilight has caused (non-human)
deaths! I also heard Twilight has it's own religion now, though if they are serious or not is questionable. The closest to pony worship I would go is calling myself a member of the Order of the Invisible Pink Unicorn, which I did even before I was a brony and has no real connection. (Invisible Multi-coloured-but- primarily-teal Pegasus FTW, j/k)
