Okay, so as a fan of fantasy, I just have to say that whenever I think of clerics, I think of guys who can summon divine healing and smiting magic. Generally they also have pretty solid hit points and can hold their own in a fight.
Sadly, I see this term used in real life. Particularly in Muslim countries/with Muslims. Where's their holy magic? Oh, they don't have any? FUCKING LAME! >:(
-
That's why fantasy is so much more interesting than real life. *Goes off into my own little world, but it's okay; they know me there.*
-
It's not just Clerics. In fantasy, my Ranger is a badass forest-walking bow-slinging killing machine with a heart dead-set on protecting the innocent. In real life, rangers are... forest cops, basically. With some survival and search training, but still... not exactly the same. :P
-
Haha, we also have the monk problem. To be fair, monks are a little cooler, but they don't have shit like "feather fall" and "Ki Strike!" Real life is just so boring sometimes. I wonder what the world would be like if these people could actually summon holy magic...
-
As someone who intersects with New Age circles, this looks a lit more interesting from my point of view.
I know one or two Shamans at the least, and even someone who has a level in Necromancer.
-
I have taken a few levels in Ranger and Rogue.

So I take it "Summon Suicide Bomber" is not a real spell in your view.
-
Mine looks like Achmed the Dead Terrorist.
-
A friend of mine managed to summon a Balor once, but he forgot to cast Protection Against Evil first and it killed him. Dumbass.

And with dorky hats and shorts.

And they won't even let you start fires.
-
My only DnD cleric was a sarcastic plate-wearing mace-wielding healing and buff monkey who I made asexual to f*ck with the oversexed dwarven sorcerer...
-
Mine looks like Achmed the Dead Terrorist.
is he a terrifying terrorist?

Oh terrifically terrifying.

Well, okay, yeah. There's THOSE rangers. But in DnD terms, they're more like fighters than rangers, apart from the name.

Still, he's got a point. Not all rangers are forest cops. :)
-
Yeah, but the DnD rangers are foresty sorts, so it's not an accurate comparison just because they happen to share the same name. I wouldn't compare them to spandex-clad, giant robot-driving, teenager with attitudes, for example. ;)
-
My elven cleric of Pelor summons Bison to squish Goblins into walls.
Ironbite-yeah lets see a Catholic Priest do THAT!

Actually, Rangers are bad ass all-terrain walking, gun slinging killing machines with a heart dead-set on fucking up anything that needs to be destroyed. ;) Rangers Lead The Way!!
-
/me stands thoroughly corrected and defeated.
-
Well hey... At least you can say you've been pwned by a Ranger!
-
So, I take it none of you have ever seen a priest cast Holy Smite?
-
That's for the Good Domain of Clerics anyways. And really, the Good domain sucks.
Ironbite-much rather go Sun and Healing or Dragon and Time.
-
I'm currently RPing as a paladin who was essentially religiously homeschooled and attempts to proselytize to everyone. She has no idea why she is so annoying, or that she is even being annoying at all. :D
-
Really eh? What game you doing?
Ironbite-I'm sorry which system are you playing?
-
Pathfinder.
-
I think I'm in love.
-
Oops.
-
I'm an Agent of Mara - Goddess of love and compassion, handmaid of Kyne. I missionary work and spread her message of love and compassion, through the slaughtering of bandits. XD
-
For the record I play a hafling summoner who's Eidolon is a giant flying snake.
-
Aasimar paladin with a thing for light. She's also nobility, seeking to reclaim her rightful lands (they got conquered by some giants).
Fun fact: our initial party of five had no rogue and no arcane spellcasters.
-
I play more NWN which is based off of but not the same thing as D&D.
My most frequent repeat character (the one I use in various modules) is Sirind "Zy" Zyrustine, a chaotic neutral/good (he's been swerving back and forth lately) elven rogue/wizard/arcane archer. In NWN you're allowed to pick your character's voice set, so for the lulz I gave him the "High-Strung Evangelist" voice set which is probably the funniest voice acting of all time.
"Attack! I SAYYY~ attack!"
"You are SOOO~ gonna feel some wrath!"
"Keep it up and I'll knock you into LAAA~ST week so you can spend it 'till now looking forward to me kicking your tail again!"
Now when I play him I pretend he's the cloud cuckoolander who lives by the philosophy of "God helps those who help themselves... so I'm helping myself to some of this evil count's gold."

Not to mention being able to wear medium armor. Though personally I hate divine casters and magical healing in fantasy games, from a DM perspective.
On the other hand, this paladin is probably cooler than a D&D Paladin:

I don't mean to necro the thread any further... but I'm totally stealing this.

Oh me too. *Yoinks*
